Job summary

Legal Aid BC is seeking a Supervisor, IT Operations in Vancouver to lead the IT Operations team, oversee major systems initiatives and ensure reliable service delivery. You will design and implement IT strategies, manage budgets, and coordinate with internal stakeholders to align technology with strategic goals.

Qualifications

SALARY: Job Class 25 ($86,260 - $98,660) *market adjusted

HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday

This position has the option to participate in a modified work week schedule (37.5 hours/week) Monday to Friday, with the extra hours worked as one earned day off taken once every three-week scheduled cycle.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To supervise, coordinate and support the IT Operations of the Information Technology department. This position assists in the design and implementation of approved information technology strategies, telecommunications services, including efficient service delivery, identifying systems opportunities, developing and overseeing the implementation of all major systems initiatives. The IT Operations Supervisor provides leadership to the Legal Aid BC IT Operations Staff.

The following job duties are illustrative examples and shall not be construed as an exhaustive description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the job.

DUTIES:

1. PLAN, REVIEW AND COORDINATE IT OPERATIONS:

  1. Participate in the design and implementation of approved IT strategies and long-term technological plan, and annual systems plans;
  2. Participate in the development and recommendation of business plans and proposals for systems initiatives; provides business cases, and analyzes costs, implications and benefits;
  3. Ensure appropriate technologies and processes are in place to protect information security protection from viruses, spam and other;
  4. Maintain current awareness of emerging trends in information technology; assess applicability and cost effectiveness;
  5. Collaborate with external organizations on matters of mutual interest related to systems planning and implementation;
  6. Ensure that computer systems meet Society needs; liaise with management, staff and external agents to identify requirements and opportunities; and,
  7. Maintain service level agreements, system availability; report back to the management team on adherence to these metrics.

2. PERFORM SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

  1. Provide leadership and day to day supervision to IT staff and contractors;
  2. Provide leadership and direction in training, scheduling, and performance development including establishing individual goals and objectives;
  3. coordinate and delegates work projects;
  4. Oversee the work of consultants and negotiate contracts as required;
  5. Assist users and staff in the more complex situation(s); and,
  6. Oversee the management of efficient help desk services.

3. PERFORM ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:

  1. Participate in the development of the IT Department’s budget, business plan and administrative policies;
  2. Coordinate inter-divisional communications and initiatives; represent the Department on internal committees;
  3. Participate in preparing the IT Capital Asset Plan;
  4. Participate in the development and management of the IT Department’s annual budget and is accountable for monitoring, controlling and authorizing expenditures;
  5. Participate in determining departmental programs, resource and operational priorities and requirements; develop comprehensive plans and strategies to meet identified program and service needs; and,
  6. Provide input on the acquisition, operation and maintenance of telecommunication systems, mobile devices, and IT investments including IT systems hardware and software applications.

4. TECHNICAL DUTIES:

  1. Provide business analysis, project management, planning, monitoring and reporting of business benefits realization of IT investments;
  2. Participate in special projects within area of expertise; makes presentations and participates in Society projects within other areas;
  3. Maintain the Society’s information technology standards;
  4. Manage on-going and long-term operation and maintenance of systems;
  5. Support current software and infrastructure and recommend future acquisition and implementation of software and infrastructure;
  6. Maintain equipment and plan for the replacement of outdated technology;
  7. Analyze impact of software and proposed modifications on installations, standards and procedures to enhance operating activities;
  8. Monitor system capacity, bandwidths, etc. and provide the necessary adjustments; and,
  9. Adhere to IT Governance/Control Objectives for Information & Related Technology (COBIT) framework standards.

5. PERFORM OTHER RELATED DUTIES:

  1. Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Basic Requirements

  1. University or college degree/diploma in an appropriate discipline such as Computer Science;
  2. Minimum 5 years relevant experience as outlined in rated requirements;
  3. OR an equivalent combination of education and experience

Rated requirements

  1. Knowledge of the installation configuration and maintenance of computer operating system software such as Server 2008/2012, Windows 7/8/10, VMWare server/desktop virtualization, SQL2008/2012, CRM 2013, SharePoint 2013, and Microsoft Azure cloud technologies/platforms
  2. Knowledge of software/hardware required for the operation of computer networks such as Dell, HP and F5
  3. Knowledge in analyzing, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining and repairing of network infrastructure and application components including software/hardware required for the operation of computer networks.
  4. Knowledge of information technology systems, applications and methodologies related to the work performed.
  5. Knowledge of interaction and relationships of computer hardware and software
  6. Knowledge of network design (network directory services) including alternate methods such as VPN
  7. Knowledge of applications software, and their configuration on a network
  8. Knowledge of diagnostics and problem-solving techniques for computers and peripherals
  9. Ability to type general correspondence
  10. Ability to operate computer-related equipment
  11. Ability to plan, allocate and monitor work of information technology staff
  12. Ability to supervise, train, plan, schedule and evaluate work of staff
  13. Ability to foster effective working relationships with peers, internal clients and external contact
  14. Ability to function with independence and under pressure and ability to meet multiple service demands at the same time
  15. Must have demonstrated written and verbal communication skills combined with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to foster and work within a multi-disciplinary team environment
  16. Must have strong supervisory, management, leadership skills in leading, coaching and direction of staff
  17. Must have excellent project management skills and the demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  18. Must have sound planning, organizational, analytical and administrative skills
  19. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  20. Must have excellent organizational skills
  21. Must be a team player
