Job summary

Olds College of Agriculture & Technology in Alberta is seeking a Supervisor, Events & Game Day to lead the planning, execution, and improvement of athletic events and game day experiences, ensuring compliance with ACAC regulations and delivering exceptional spectator and student-athlete experiences.

In this full-time role reporting to the Manager of the Athletic Department, you will manage event operations, risk, staffing, communications, budgeting, and partnerships, while fostering an inclusive

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Sport management, or related field. First Aid and CPR certification required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in event planning, with elite sports exposure.
  • Proven experience in developing promotions, community engagement, social media and communication strategies.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute game day and Athletics events, ensuring positive experiences while adhering to OC directives.
  • Coordinate with team members to ensure smooth transitions between event phases including admissions.
  • Establish and maintain emergency response plans for game day scenarios in collaboration with health and safety personnel.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate game day staff, announcers, scorekeepers, webcasters, and student assistants.
  • Develop annual game day and event operations strategy aligned with department goals.
  • Manage the webcasting of all Broncos Athletics events and update the athletics website and social platforms.
  • Monitor budgeting and resource planning for event expenditures.

The Opportunity: Supervisor, Events & Game Day (full-time, permanent)

The overall purpose of this job is to ensure the strategic planning, execution, and continuous improvement of all athletic events and game day experiences. This role operates under the direction of the Manager, Athletic Department. This role's main contribution is to ensure exceptional event delivery and compliance with ACAC and sport governing body regulations, while elevating the spectator and student‑athlete experience through innovative engagement strategies.


Key Job Functions

Event Operations & Risk Management


  • Plan and execute game day and Athletics events ensuring positive experiences while adhering to OC directives and standards.

  • Coordinate with team members to ensure a smooth and efficient transition between event phases including admissions

  • Establish and maintain emergency response plans for game day scenarios in collaboration with health and safety personnel.

  • Serve as the primary contact for visiting teams, officials, and external partners during events.


Team Leadership & Supervision


  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate game day staff, announcers, scorekeepers, webcasters, and student assistants

  • Act as the primary point of contact for staff and volunteers during events, offering guidance, support, and direction

  • Develop professional development resources and training protocols for event staff


Strategic Leadership & Planning


  • Develop and implement an annual game day and event operations strategy aligned with department goals.

  • Provide leadership in creating a consistent, professional, and inclusive experience at all athletic events.

  • Cultivate community relationships and partnerships to increase event attendance, sponsorship, and support.

  • Assist with logistics for departmental or sport‑specific special events and other institutional events as needed.


Communications & Digital Presence


  • Manage the webcasting of all Broncos Athletics events, including staff training, equipment purchasing, and broadcast strategy development.

  • Manage and update the athletics website and social media platforms with timely and engaging content.

  • Lead promotional campaigns in collaboration with Marketing & Communications.

  • Produce event summaries and analytics to evaluate engagement and drive improvements


Financial Oversight & Reporting Compliance


  • Support budgeting and resource planning for event‑related expenditures.

  • Monitor spending against allocated budgets; identify opportunities for cost‑efficiency or revenue generation.

  • Manage compliance with all ACAC statistical and reporting requirements.

  • Monitor compliance with ACAC and national sport body regulations, ensuring accuracy in scheduling, reporting, and eligibility.


Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Sport management, or a related field or a combination of education and experience. Standard First Aid and CPR certification required.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in event planning, with a preference for experience in elite sports. Proven experience in developing and executing promotions, community engagement, social media, and communication strategies

  • Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills under stress.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and a diverse workload independently and collaboratively.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms, and website management.

  • Strategic thinking and strong dedication to promoting inclusivity and diversity


Conditions of Employment:


  • Frequent evening and weekend work required during sport seasons

  • Occasional lifting and setup of event equipment

  • Standard First Aid and CPR certification

  • Current Criminal Reference check with a vulnerable sector check that is free of any offenses

  • Must respect and actively promote health and safety policies
