Description

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit including GO Expansion Light Rail Transit routes and major expansions to Toronto's subway system to get people where they need to go better faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

What will I be doing
  • Executes supervisory oversight through active performance management of assigned Bus Drivers.
  • Identifies and document performance issues; collaborates with the Superintendent and / or Manager and the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) representatives to take action for resolution.
  • Reviews and initiates appropriate actions in response to passenger‑related service delivery issues.
  • Maintains accurate and useful data on ridership, route incidents, sales and other pertinent measures.
  • Leads the implementation of operational / route functions assigning specific buses to pre‑selected runs in accordance with the bus cycling plan and recommending changes due to passenger traffic impacts.
  • Conducts regular and frequent operational and performance audits.
  • Researches and recommends operational improvements.
  • Adjusts service in response to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Leads the resolution of passenger complaints or disputes within assigned area of responsibility.
  • Acts as a front‑line spokesperson to the public providing current and relevant information or escalating concerns when required.
  • Coordinates with municipalities for short and long‑term route and service changes.
  • Generates recommendations in response to emerging passenger needs e.g. new bus stops shelters.
  • Initiates improvements to transit services and operational efficiency by facilitating dialogue and information‑sharing as well as motivating all employees to look for new ways to exceed passenger expectations.
  • Champions change and advocates for implementation of Metrolinx / GO strategies and business plans.
  • Completes and submits accurate records for personnel regarding compensation payout.
  • Assesses service continuously for operational efficiencies.
  • Collects outstanding revenues and manages reconciliation of driver accounts.
  • Supervises an assigned group of Bus Drivers on a day‑to‑day basis including coaching, mentoring and guiding in order to motivate excellent performance.
  • Assesses training or other performance development needs and make recommendations for provision.
  • Demonstrates leadership and core competencies at a high level of development and is an exemplary model of living the corporate Values and Code of Ethics.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need
  • Post‑secondary degree or diploma or a combination of training and experience deemed equivalent for this role.
  • Demonstrated years of experience driving highway coaches and / or city transit buses in an urban centre.
  • Supervisory or team lead experience in a unionised environment is preferred including scheduling crews and implementing route adjustments / changes.
  • Experience maintaining excellent labour relations and managing through disputes is an asset.
  • A valid Ontario Class B drivers license with a Z endorsement and an acceptable (safe) driving record for the past 5 years.
