Job Description

We are currently seeking a Superintendent to implement, monitor and report on the Canada Post vehicle preventative and corrective maintenance program for the repair facility and assigned remote postal facilities, ensuring the availability of vehicles to meet operational needs. You will be called upon to monitor, analyze and report on repair facility activity including KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), safety practices and budgetary expenses, as well as provide leadership, guidance and supervision for the day-to-day activities of fleet maintenance staff.

Job Responsibilities
  • Implement and monitor the Canada Post vehicle preventive and corrective maintenance program in the repair facility and assigned remote postal facilities, with the goal of optimizing vehicle availability and ensuring that standard repair practices are followed
  • Provide leadership and guidance and supervise the day-to-day activities of the automotive maintenance facility staff, assess staff performance, provide coaching and recommend the selection, hiring, discipline, promotion and demotion of staff
  • Gather, analyze and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the repair facility and assigned remote postal facilities and make recommendations for improvements and corrective action as required
  • Monitor the safety practices of the repair facility, make recommendations to correct or improve its safety, implement safety policies, and investigate all injury-on-duty incidents
  • Investigate technical failures of vehicle components and determine causes for failure in relation to faulty tooling manufacturing, faulty maintenance practices, poor driving habits, or a combination thereof, for corrective action
  • Plan and prioritize the overall workload of the facility within time and budgetary constraints while meeting vehicle operational requirements, identify unreliable and/or high cost vehicles for replacement, authorize, monitor and report on vehicle maintenance expenditures, and manage, at minimum cost, an inventory of spare parts and supplies
  • Recommends vehicle repair facility staff training to the Manager and/or Fleet Maintenance Control Officer
  • Reviews and ensures contractor work orders are consistent with the pricing of parts and labour and ensures quality assurance of the work completed
  • Participates in the process to review Standing Offer Agreements for Automotive Services requirements
  • Ensures that timely and accurate data is input into the Fleet Management Information System (FMIS) and that records are maintained in the vehicle file
Qualifications
Education
  • High School diploma or provincial equivalent (GED) (Equivalent Experience may be accepted in lieu of a High School Diploma)
Experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience managing a team within a unionized environment
  • OR Minimum 2 years’ experience coaching, mentoring and/or supervising apprentices and/or trainees within an automotive repair setting
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to the operation of fleet vehicles and facilities
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e. understand the major features of each software application)
Other Candidate Requirements
  • Possess a valid permanent driver’s license (no graduated or temporary license)
  • Have a satisfactory safe driving record per CPC’s Driver Safety Program, which includes:
    • a) Have not received more than 2 moving violations in last 3 years
    • b) Have not had more than three demerit points assigned in one single violation
    • c) Have not had license suspension or prohibition of any kind in last 3 years
  • Possess a valid Motor Vehicle Mechanic licence - Certificate of Qualification with an interprovincial Red Seal endorsement
Assets
  • Training, experience and/or associated licences with alternate fuels (LPG, CNG, HEV, BEV, PHEV)
  • Training and experience with hydraulic systems
  • Worked as a motor vehicle repair service advisor / service manager
