Job summary

Paterson Grain is seeking a motivated summer student to join the operations, marketing and administrative team at a Paterson Grain location in Teulon, MB. You will assist with daily facility operations, inventory management and customer-related tasks under the Location Manager's supervision.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a degree in Ag Business or Agronomy, have strong organizational and communication skills, and are willing to learn all aspects of the business. Valid Class 5 license is required.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree or diploma in Ag Business, Agronomy, or related discipline.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Willingness to learn day-to-day business operations.
• Farming/agricultural background is an asset.
• Valid Class 5 driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Assist with facility operations including fertilizer, crop protection products, maintenance, truck unloading, and rail car shipping.
• Operate a forklift to load and unload products while following safety guidelines.
• Maintain inventory data and record loadouts and invoices in AGRE.
• Assist with customer service, grain purchases, contracts, and reports.
• Support ISO 22000 food safety and quality control procedures in operations.
• Help organize demonstrations and customer tours; assist with deliveries between facilities.
• Plan summer events and other duties as assigned.

Job description

We are currently looking for motivated, hands-on students! As a Paterson Grain Summer Student, you will serve as part of the daily operations, marketing and administrative team at a Paterson Grain location. Reporting to the Location Manager, you will be responsible for assisting and shadowing various staff at the location, with a view to ensuring quality in the handling and delivery of Paterson Grain products and services.

What You’ll Do

• Assist with facility operations, including fertilizer and crop protection products, general maintenance, truck unloading, rail car shipping, grain cleaning, and operating a forklift to load and unload products
• Follow operational safety requirements and Health & Safety guidelines when handling fertilizer, chemicals, seed, and other product inventory
• Organize the chem shed on a weekly basis for more visibility as the inventory moves
• Maintain accurate inventory data and record loadouts and invoices in AGRE
• Assist administration with customer service and processing of grain purchases, contracts and general reports required
• Understand the ISO 22000 food safety program as it relates to customers and operations
• Understand Quality Control factors and how they relate to binning and shipping procedures
• Support the Logistics Coordinator in organizing farm deliveries with required shipments
• Work closely with Marketing Manager in commodity contracting, customer relations and understanding competitive programs in the area
• Establish and maintain demonstration plots and assist with customer tours
• Deliver chemicals and seed to and from other Paterson Grain facilities
• Independently conduct field scouting activities entering data into record keeping software
• Assist with planning and organizing summer events: BBQ and Customer Relations
• Other duties as assigned

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Willingness to learn day-to-day business operations
• Farming/agricultural background would be considered an asset.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license

This position is available to students who are currently enrolled in school, as well as students graduating in 2027 who are interested in gaining experience and exploring full-time opportunities.
