Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Engineering degree required.
• 10+ years in design engineering/management of high voltage utility projects.
• Experience in Project Management of Utility Transmission, Substation or Energy Projects.
• Knowledge of NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEC, IEEE and ANSI standards.
• Experience with EPC/Owner's Engineer/Traditional or Joint Ventures is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; experience writing proposals.
• Experience in cost allocation, estimating, and risk assessment.

Description

This position will offer you the opportunity to manage project team(s) consisting of engineers, designers, estimators, controls and scheduling professionals involved in the design, modification, and analysis of new and existing high voltage substations. As a Substation Engineer Consultant, you will:

• Support challenging assignments from individual projects, large projects, major programs, to large scale engineering only, Engineer Procure and EPC projects.
• Direct the team lead in the coordination of detailed design phases for all aspects of electrical engineering work.
• Coordinate and manage work performed by other stakeholders on the project such as civil, structural, and transmission lines.
• Lead efforts to ensure projects are completed with high quality, on time performance, and within budget.
• Identify and track potential out‑of‑scope work, develop and provide scope changes, and coordinate with the client for approval.
• Coordinate system design activities to ensure installation and operations comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
• Collaborate with staff both locally and nationwide.
• Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner, meeting client requirements and Sargent & Lundy formats.
• Perform reviews of work performed by others, including calculations, drawings, reports, material and construction specifications, procurement specifications.
• Communicate directly with clients, providing both project support and overall account support.
• Support the company in business development opportunities with existing and potential clients.
• Perform and provide independent reviews of scope of work, proposals, procurement specifications, and contract documents.
• Develop and mentor team members.

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in‑office work 3 days per week, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days. Dependent upon your location, this opportunity offers a generous relocation package.

Essential Skills And Experience

• This position requires a Bachelor of Science Engineering degree.
• Specific experience in Project Management of Utility Transmission, Substation or Energy Projects.
• Knowledge of engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEC, IEEE and ANSI.
• 10 or more years of experience in the design engineering and/or management of high voltage utility type projects; experience should include preparation, oversight or management of scopes of work, development of conceptual layouts, determination of design basis, selection of equipment and materials, and preparation and assembly of calculations and specifications.
• Experience in execution of projects in multiple contract arrangements including EPC, Owner's Engineer, Traditional or Joint Ventures is a plus.
• Experience serving as a firm/client liaison in a support, engineer or management role.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience in writing proposals.
• Experience in cost allocation and control, estimating, proposal preparation, risk assessment programs and techniques.

Valued But Not Required Skills And Experience

• A Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering degree is preferable.
• A degree from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board‑accredited undergraduate program or a US‑based ABET‑accredited program.
• An advanced management/business degree or certification is preferred.
• PE or P.Eng license.
• PMP certification.
• Construction and start‑up experience is a plus.
• Commissioning experience is a plus.
