Job summary

HDR Engineering is seeking a Substation Electrical EIT to join our growing Power Delivery team with opportunities across Canada. You will assist in designing substations, preparing drawings, calculations, and reports for low, medium, and high voltage projects.

Work closely with designers and CAD technicians, perform site visits, and contribute to one-line diagrams, protection schemes, wiring diagrams, and grounding studies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• EIT certificate required.
• 2+ years of Substation design experience in P&C or physical design.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD or MicroStation.
• Strong written and confident verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Self-motivated and ability to take initiative.

Responsibilities

• Prepare drawings, calculations, analyses, reports, and designs for electrical substations (low, medium, and high voltage).
• Collaborate with Designers and CAD Technicians to develop drawings in accordance with national design standards, safety codes and project specifications and requirements.
• Develop design deliverables including one-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA schemes, communications plans, substation layouts, material lists, conduit and cable sizing/routing, AC/DC systems calculations and grounding.
• Perform site visits during the design, construction, and as-built phases of projects.

Job description

HDR Engineering is currently seeking a Substation Electrical EIT to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals in Western Canada.

Primary Responsibilities

• Preparation of engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, reports, and designs for electrical substations (low, medium, and high voltage).
• Working with Designers and CADD Technicians to develop drawings in accordance with national design standards, safety codes and project specifications and requirements.
• Developing design deliverables including one‑line diagrams, protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA schemes, communications plans, substation physical layouts, material lists, conduit and cable sizing/routing, AC and DC systems calculations and sizing, and substation grounding.
• Performing site visits during the design, construction, and as‑built phases of projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 2 years of Substation design experience in P&C or physical design.
• Strong written and confident verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Self‑motivated and ability to take initiative.
• Exposure to general Civil Engineering experience a plus.
• Prior experience in both P&C and physical substation design considered a plus.
• Experience using AutoCAD and/or Microstation considered a plus.
• Prior experience consulting or working for an electric utility considered a plus.
• Experience using electrical design software such as SKM PowerTools, ETAP, or EasyPower considered a plus.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• Engineer In Training (EIT) certificate.
• Computer skills in Microsoft Office.

Compensation

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. The pay range for Vancouver, BC: $75,548 - $102,212.

Locations

Primary Location: Canada‑Alberta‑Calgary. Other Locations: Canada‑Saskatoon, Canada‑Ontario‑Richmond Hill, Canada‑Ontario‑Burlington, Canada‑Ontario‑Toronto, Canada‑British Columbia‑Vancouver.
