Job summary

A leading HR consultancy based in Ontario is seeking a Training Specialist-SME to design and develop training programs, conduct needs analyses, and collaborate with SMEs. The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Science, Engineering, or IT, along with significant experience in crafting both face-to-face and e-learning training. This role also involves the development of assessment tools and program evaluations, contributing to innovative training experiences.

Job description
Task:
  1. Advise and assist the Section Head and other team members on learning theories, best pedagogical/andragogical practices, and new and emerging tools and techniques for individual training and education (IT&E).
  2. Attend meetings and discussions with operational and technical subject matter experts (SMEs) to support the conduct of needs analyses (NAs) and training needs analyses (TNAs) as required.
  3. Plan and implement NAs and TNAs, including completion of reports outlining findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  4. Attend meetings and discussions with operational and technical SMEs to support the design and development of training.
  5. Design distributed/distance (including e-learning) and local training courses in collaboration with other team members and units within the organization’s area of responsibility.
  6. Develop distributed/distance (including e-learning) and local training courses in collaboration with other team members and units within the organization’s area of responsibility.
  7. Maintain the functionality and accuracy of developed face-to-face and online courseware based on user feedback and SME input, as required.
  8. Develop both formative and summative student assessment instruments for courses developed.
  9. Develop program evaluation and assessment tools, processes, and procedures for courses in collaboration with other team members and units.
  10. Validate distributed and local training courses in collaboration with other team members and units.
Travel Requirements

The resource may be required to travel domestically and/or internationally.

Mandatory
  1. MC-1 Education. All Senior Special Advisor resources must have one of the following: a degree from a Canadian university in the field of Science or Engineering or any Information Technology (IT) field; or a diploma from a Canadian college in the field of Science or Engineering or any IT field; or any other degree or diploma from a Canadian university or Canadian college and at least 36 months of IT experience and a certification in VMware or Microsoft Certified System Engineer (Microsoft Windows NT and higher).
  2. MC-2 Needs Assessments (NAs) and Training Needs Analyses (TNAs). All Training Specialist-SME resources must have produced at least two (2) of any of the following types of documents in areas of learning, training or professional development in the last six (6) years: needs assessment (NA), training needs analysis (TNA), standards documents (performance and/or training), occupational and/or specialty specifications; and/or qualifications (i.e. – qualification standards).
  3. MC-3 Design of Face-to-Face Training Programmes. All Training Specialist-SME resources must have designed at least one (1) training/learning plan for face‑to‑face instruction in the last six (6) years.
  4. MC-4 Development of Face-to-Face Training Programmes. All Training Specialist-SME resources must have produced at least two (2) of the following types of face‑to‑face training programme courseware: lesson plans, instructional material, instructional tools, and/or learning aids in the last six (6) years.
  5. MC-5 Design of Online Training Programmes. All Training Specialist-SME resources must have produced at least one (1) training/learning plan for online instruction in the last six (6) years.
  6. MC-6 Development of Online Training Programmes. All Training Specialist-SME resources must have produced at least two (2) of the following for online training programmes: online courseware, online instructional material, online instructional tools, and/or online learning aids in the last six (6) years.
  7. MC-7 Development of Assessment Instruments. All Training Specialist-SME resources must have produced at least one (1) formative or summative student assessment for either a face‑to‑face or online training programme in the last six (6) years.
  8. MC-8 Evaluation and Validation of Training Programmes. All Training Specialist-SME resources must have produced at least one (1) programme evaluation report or validation report for either a face‑to‑face or online training programme in the last six (6) years.
