Job description

The Centre for Health and Wellness is seeking a contract Subject Matter Expert (SME) with extensive experience in Dental Assisting education and practice to support the development of a new Dental Assisting program at Lethbridge Polytechnic. The SME will lead curriculum development and regulatory alignment activities to ensure the program meets National Dental Assisting Education Board (NDAEB) competencies and College of Alberta Dental Assistants (CADA) requirements as well as standards set forth by the Commission on Dental Assisting of Canada (CDAC), and will prepare a comprehensive application package for submission to CADA and other relevant regulatory and accrediting bodies.

The SME will work closely with academic leadership, curriculum specialists, and institutional stakeholders to ensure the program is academically rigorous, industry-relevant, and approval-ready.

There is potential for additional contracts for curriculum development and regulatory and accreditation approval. This is a contract-based position. All curriculum and documents developed will be the property of the institution.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze regulatory and competency framework

  • Consult with industry, internal and external stakeholders
  • Prepare documentation for internal and external approval processes

The incumbent must be available for full-time work Monday to Friday during business hours. Some evening and weekend work may be necessary.

Required Qualifications
  • Registered Dental Assistant in good standing with a provincial regulatory body, preferably Alberta
  • Extensive professional experience in dental assisting practice and/or education
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with academic, regulatory, and industry stakeholders
  • High level of attention to detail and regulatory compliance
  • Ability to work independently and meet fixed deadlines
  • Demonstrates a consistent history of respectful, professional, and collaborative engagement with colleagues and teams, with a clear commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience preparing or contributing to regulatory or accreditation submissions
  • Experience working with Alberta post-secondary institutions
  • Existing professional connections within Alberta’s dental community
  • Experience advising on dental facilities, equipment, and clinical lab requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NDAEB competencies, CADA registration and regulatory requirements, Accreditation processes (CDAC experience considered an asset)
  • Proven experience in curriculum development or program design
  • Strong understanding of: Competency-based education, Work-integrated learning and clinical education, Assessment and instructional design principles.
Salary

Flat rate contract of $26,250 (non-negotiable). Compensation is based on 15 weeks’ full-time work. Payment will be made in installments tied to project milestones. Milestones are firm deadlines.
