Student Support Coordinator

Location: Brantford, Ontario. Eligible only for OPS employees living or working within 125 km of the work location, and to Canadian Armed Forces veterans.

Position: 1 Permanent. Full time, on‑site with on‑call hours evenings & weekends.

About the school

The W. Ross Macdonald School for the Blind provides an alternative educational placement for blind, low vision and deafblind students, offering independent learning, living skills, and self‑sufficiency in a supportive environment.

Job Purpose

As a Student Support Coordinator, you will develop and implement programs, policies, and procedures for students enrolled in lodging school services and support students’ academic independence, social and emotional wellbeing, and executive functioning.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in leading a team that delivers Expanded Core Curriculum components including independent living skills, orientation & mobility, recreation and leadership development.
  • Participate in program objective development, policy maintenance, and collaborate with other campus programs to improve service delivery.
  • Meet regularly with the Manager to discuss and resolve policy and procedural concerns.
  • Identify issues, evaluate program services, and recommend policy changes for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, legal, financial and ministry policy commitments; advise management of sensitive matters.
  • Support a values‑based and inclusive team through technical, administrative, and operational direction to staff.
Qualifications
  • First Aid and CPR training required.
  • Supervisory experience: set standards, schedule, assign, review work, evaluate performance, coach staff, and address performance issues.
  • Knowledge of child development and support theories for students who are blind, low vision and deafblind.
  • Understanding of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) and its application to planning and delivery of programs.
  • Analytical, problem‑solving and planning skills: manage day‑to‑day issues, allocate resources, resolve complaints, ensure policy compliance, maintain safety and welfare of students.
  • Strong communication skills: exchange information with management, staff and stakeholders with sensitivity and regard for diversity.
