Student Program Assistant Positions

The We’koqma’q Mi’kmaw School is accepting applications for four (4) Student Program Assistant positions.

Location: We'koqma'q Mi’kmaw School
Job type: Full time - Term
Start Date: September 2, 2025

Salary Range: in line with the Student Program Assistant Scale for the School

The Student Placement Assistant will play a vital role in the classroom working to support students individually or small groups of students with special needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist students with physical & mobility challenges as specified in their program plan;
  • Assist students with routines, transitions and planned programming;
  • Assist students with integration into the classroom and school setting;
  • Help students individually or in small groups with learning tasks or behavior goals under the supervision of the classroom teacher;
  • Monitor and report student progress to classroom teacher;
  • Accompany and supervise students during activities;
  • Assist with personal care such as toileting and personal hygiene;
  • Assist with program support as directed & monitored by the teacher;
  • Assist with safety and behavior management under the direction of the program planning team;
REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS & CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Teacher Assistant or Early Childhood Education certificate an asset
  • Experience working with children exhibiting challenging behaviors
  • Fluency in Mi’kmaq strongly recommended
  • Ability to support students with technology and academics
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position and provide personal care as required
  • Possess basic computer skills
