Job summary

Celestica is seeking an Aerospace and Defense Engineering Associate Intern to support the Value Engineering team. You will collect component data, review parameters, and assist with verifying designs under close supervision.

This 16-month remote internship in Canada offers exposure to supplier interactions, documentation creation, and participation in internal reviews with major customers.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a University/College internship program and in the 3rd year of a 4-year Electrical, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering program.
  • Able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Supply Chain, Suppliers).

Responsibilities

  • Provide component data comparisons and supplier input for prioritization.
  • Review design documents to understand design intent.
  • Support tests and documentation for verification purposes.
  • Create proposals and 4UP charts to justify component selections.
  • Maintain and update the proposal database with status and data.

About this opportunity:

The Aerospace and Defense Engineering Associate Intern will work on collecting information for the Value Engineering team, including review of component parameters, supporting testing of product for verification, gathering supply chain related data (cost, price, demand, inventory, etc), and creating documentation that would substantiate the choice of the new components. Will work under close supervision and receive detailed instructions on all work assignments. May work autonomously once proficiency in the tasks is achieved. May also be given more complex duties as proficiency is gained. This position will also provide exposure to the design of our customer’s products to gain valuable knowledge of how products are built and perform. This work will be done in the Aerospace and Defense division of Celestica, and will include working with other aerospace companies who are either partners or customers of Celestica.


Preferred Skills:


  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and Adobe Acrobat.


  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interface directly with Engineering, Supply Chain, outside Suppliers/Vendors, and Manufacturing teams.


  • Well organized, good time-management skills, detailed-oriented and a self-starter.


  • Comfortable working autonomously with minimal supervision.


  • Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.


  • Highly adaptable with a strong desire to learn.



Activities:


  • Providing comparison data from similar components.


  • Interfacing with supplier chain to determine priority of components to investigate.


  • Review design documentation to understand design intent.


  • Support testing of components and/or end units (documentation only) for verification purposes.


  • Create tables and documents that justify the new selected components.


  • Generate proposals and 4UP charts.


  • Responsible for the continuous and timely update of the proposal database (Platypus) for any status/progress updates or to any of the data content (price, yearly demand, project type, etc).


  • Lead internal review meetings for the proposals they have generated and lead weekly RAIL meetings with our major customers (Honeywell, Collins, L3, etc)



Physical Demands, duties of this position are varied and will include:


  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.


  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.


  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.



Salary

The range described in this posting is an estimate by the Company, and may change based on several factors, including but not limited to a change in the duties covered by the job posting, or the credentials, experience or geographic jurisdiction of the successful candidate.


The hourly wage is determined by the years of study completed and is non-negotiable as per company policy.


Hourly Wage: $23-30 CAD/hr
