Job summary

National Bank of Canada is offering a full-time Analyst (Intern) position in the Credit Risk Analytics team in Richmond Hill, ON. You will work on credit risk modeling, risk reporting, and governance tasks, gaining hands-on experience in IFRS-9, stress testing, and capital planning.

You will collaborate with a team of about 25 analysts, supporting monthly and quarterly cycles, and developing models and risk documentation.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies in Finance, Financial Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
  • Completion or progress in CFA, FRM and/or SAS is an asset.
  • Previous work, co-op, or internship experience in banks is an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify drivers of risk changes.
  • Clear business and technical writing abilities.
  • Attention to detail and critical thinking.
  • Eagerness to learn and contribute.

Responsibilities

  • Support risk analytics and reporting for senior management with analyses and presentations.
  • Assist in developing, implementing and back testing credit risk models (PD/LGD/EAD).
  • Support monthly and quarterly risk production, quantify risk and capital.
  • Prepare documentation for models and risk processes per regulatory requirements.
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests from the supervisor and senior management with precision.

Job description

As an Analyst (Intern) in the Credit Risk Analytics team at National Bank, you will develop valuable risk management skills by working on credit risk modeling and risk reporting in areas like IFRS-9, stress testing, and capital. You will collaborate closely with the team and perform various risk analysis tasks to support the Bank's risk function. With your programming, data analysis, problem-solving, and communication skills, you will gain hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of risk management. This is a full-time internship.


Your role:


  • Contribute to risk analytics and reporting, including the preparation of analysis results and presentations for senior management.

  • Participate in the development, implementation and back testing of credit risk models, including Probability of Default (PD), Loss Given Default (LGD), Exposure at Default (EAD) and other models.

  • Support the monthly and quarterly risk production activities, quantify risk and capital, and identify key risk drivers.

  • Create and maintain documents for models and risk processes following the internal and regulatory requirements.

  • Complete risk-relevant tasks assigned by the supervisor and respond to questions and ad-hoc requests from the senior management in a precise and efficient manner.

As part of the Credit Risk Analytics sector, you’ll be on a team of 25 of colleagues. Our team stands out for expertise in model development, model implementation and risk reporting in IFRS-9, stress testing and capital areas. As some processes are part of the Bank’s month-end or quarter-end reporting to the public or to the regulators, we may work under tight deadline and pressure sometimes. We offer a wide range of ongoing learning opportunities for your development, including coaching, hands-on learning, and through the collaborating with colleagues who have varied expertise and profiles such as risk programming, in-depth data analytics, model development, and presentation to senior management.


Prerequisites


  • In an undergraduate or graduate program in Finance, Financial Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science or other relevant fields.

  • Completion or progression in CFA, FRM and/or SAS certification would be an asset.

  • Previous work/co-op experience in banks would be an asset.

  • Outstanding analytical skills to identify the causes of risk changes.

  • Business and/or technical writing with clear and concise written communication skills.

  • Strong attention to details and exceptional critical thinking skill.

  • Strong desire to learn along with professional drive.
