Overview
The Structured Cabling Technician will travel to customer sites (commercial businesses) to install and maintain network cabling systems and other systems (voice, video, data, etc.)
Responsibilities
- Interpret and verify work orders, specifications, drawings, schematics and special requirements
- Perform site inspections
- Assemble and set up all tools, materials and equipment
- Create cable pathways
- Install cable supports
- Install, fish, dress, cross connect and terminate Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP), co-axial and fibre optic cable
- Install WiFi (802.11b / g and n) networks
- Test, review and troubleshoot installed systems
- Liaise with customers to explain, coordinate and schedule network cable installations.
- Provide work logs and reports
Occupational Requirements / Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience with commercial structured / network cabling
- Experience using aerial lift equipment (i.e. scissor lift)
- Strong understanding of network equipment (routers, switches, desktops, etc.)
- Able and willing to travel to customer sites over extended periods of time
- Must possess a valid and unexpired Class G or 5 driver’s licence with a clear driver’s abstract
- Must have access to a personal vehicle to drive to and from job sites independently
- Able and willing to work revolving day / night shifts
- Experience working with retail customers or in a POS environment strongly preferred
- Excellent communication skills
