Job description

Overview

The candidate will perform structural welding within a shop environment. Responsibilities include fitting and welding drilling products, fuel tanks, and other structural objects using mild steel. The role involves welding the structure of a drilling rig, with a 50/50 split between fitting and welding during the day shift and a 20/80 split for the night shift. The candidate will use oxy fuel cutting torches, with a fit-up tolerance of approximately 1/8".

Responsibilities

• Perform structural welding on drilling products, fuel tanks, and other objects.
• Fit and weld components for rigs and mobile oilfield units.
• Utilize oxy fuel cutting torches with precise fit-up tolerance.
• Split time effectively between fitting and welding tasks.

Essential Skills

• Structural welding experience.
• Proficiency in fluxcore and metalcore welding techniques.
• Journeyman Welder certification with 5 years of experience.
• Experience with fitting skids, ladders, handrails, and platforms.
• Ability to work in all welding positions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Work Environment

Located in SE Calgary, the shop employs approximately 30 trades workers and plans to expand significantly in 2024. The day shift runs from Monday to Friday, 6:30 am to 3:00 pm, with overtime available after 8 hours in a day. The afternoon shift runs from Monday to Thursday, 2:30 pm to 1:00 am, offering a $3 premium, with overtime available after 10 hours in a day.

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $40.00/hr.
