Job description

Raise is currently hiring a Structural Technologist on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client is a Canadian global leader in exploration, mine engineering, and environmental protection.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.

The Structural Technologist in this role will join our clients technical project team. In this role, you will play a critical part in delivering high-quality 3D modeling and 2D CAD design solutions across structural steel, reinforced concrete, and architectural systems for heavy industrial mining facilities.

Working closely with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, plant operations, and construction contractors, you will ensure all design deliverables adhere strictly to the organizations design standards, regulatory codes, and site-specific safety protocols.

  • Contract Length: 10 Months
  • Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
Responsibilities
  • Structural Modeling & CAD Drafting: Develop detailed 3D models and production-ready 2D execution drawings (structural steel framing, concrete foundations, connection details, and architectural layouts) supporting capital and sustaining projects.
  • Quality & Technical Checking: Take ownership of planning, modeling, drafting accuracy, and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) for all structural deliverables prior to construction release.
  • Material Quantification: Prepare precise Bills of Materials (BOM) and Material Take-Offs (MTO) to support procurement, estimating, and construction execution.
  • Standards & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all modeling and drafting work complies with ’s engineering procedures, project design criteria, and applicable building/safety codes.
  • Operational Collaboration: Serve as a reliable technical bridge between engineering, site operational teams, and third-party contractors to maintain positive, collaborative relationships and solve constructability challenges.
  • Safety Leadership: Maintain strict adherence to ’s safety-first culture and site-specific Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) protocols during office execution and site visits.
Qualifications
  • Intermediate: 4–9 years of practical structural design and modeling experience.
  • Senior: 10+ years of progressive structural detailing, checking, and design coordination experience.
  • Proven background delivering structural design within heavy industrial environments—mining, mineral processing, or heavy resource projects experience is strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on expertise in AutoCAD and 3D modeling tools such as Advance Steel, Revit, or AutoCAD Plant 3D.
  • Proficiency with review/coordination tools like Navisworks and point-cloud/laser-scanning software (e.g., Leica JetStream).
  • Sound working knowledge of relevant Canadian codes, including the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), National Fire Code of Canada (NFCC), and applicable regional industrial standards.
  • Practical understanding of structural steel fabrication techniques, concrete detailing/rebar placement, architectural envelope details, and on-site construction methodologies.
  • Key Soft Skills & Work Expectations
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage project priorities and work independently with minimal daily supervision while taking ownership of deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset, reliability, high technical rigor, and a proactive attitude.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally to remote mine sites via light aircraft/charter flight for field verification, site walkdowns, and construction support.
  • Education and Certifications
  • Diploma in Civil / Structural Engineering Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Professional certification as a Technologist (e.g., ASET, SASTT, or provincial equivalent) is strongly preferred or eligible for registration.
