Structural Engineering Office Manager

We are seeking a senior professional with strong management skills to lead our engineering practice which has a focus on bridges and ports. This opportunity, for the correct individual, is to provide leadership, business development, project management, and technical direction, oversee the delivery of all our engineering work, and to grow our capability to meet the requirements of our growing client focused business. This unique opportunity has been created by a new business plan focused on the roll out of our special blend of services across Canada. The individual we are seeking is an engineering manager who can build and lead a talented group of professionals around the unique structural monitoring, design and education service model of our firm. This person understands the technical excellence required, enjoys the business development challenges and can manage for profitability.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership, business development, project management, and technical direction for the engineering practice focusing on bridges and ports.
  • Oversee the delivery of all engineering work and grow the capability to meet the needs of a growing client‑focused business.
  • Build and lead a team of professionals around the firm\'s structural monitoring, design and education service model.
  • Support profitability and effective management of projects and resources.
  • Contribute to business development and strategic planning across Canada.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate or Graduate Engineering Degree.
  • Ability to register as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in the province of Nova Scotia.
  • Broad scope knowledge of civil designs and an understanding of industry codes, standards, and construction methods.
  • Material design experience, which may include experience in the use of structural steel, reinforced concrete, FRP, and / or wood.
  • Minimum 8 years experience working in the design of bridge and port structures as well as heavy industrial projects.
  • A unique focus on structural health monitoring (SHM) or experience in this area would also be considered a strong asset.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skill.
  • Team-oriented and a creative thinker.
  • Keen decision-making abilities.
  • Previous experience mentoring and coaching junior / intermediate level designers and technical professionals.

At various stages you will be working with a team of highly qualified professionals who together will manage the professional practices of the company. You will also manage the company’s relationships with technical organizations and participate in the annual BRIDGELIFE Conference.
