What is the Opportunity?
As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation to support the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP). Beginning in 2023, Aecon will support the validation phase design, procurement, early site preparation, and site mobilization scope for the construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.

Reporting to the Technical Director, this role will support work within the DNNP project, and will be responsible for planning, design, and execution of the temporary work structures.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Work closely with field teams to understand their needs and prepare concept, design for all required temporary structures
  • Collaborate with external engineers and internal teams to create detailed technical drawings and schematics
  • Create and finalize shop fabrication drawings including custom fabrication and design
  • Material take-off and generation of bill of materials
  • Conduct quality checks on completed work to identify any errors or discrepancies
  • Support all projects through the fabrication process of temporary steel structures
  • Design, plan, and supervise all structural steel required for: - Working platform – Brackets, - Access scaffolding – Base plates – Anchorage – Tie-off point – Working at height elements – Tie backs – Guying and bracing all structures during construction
  • Provide status and progress reports to customers, project team, and management
  • Interface with client representatives, design engineers, consultants, other contractors, etc.
  • Ensure project is constructed in accordance with QA programs and project quality standards
  • All other duties as assigned

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng) is considered an asset
  • Minimum 10 years experience in structural design and detailing, with a preference for experience in temporary structures
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (both oral and written) skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills in communicating with a large team
  • Organizational and time management skills. Ability to prioritize and multi-task. Service-oriented
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment
