Job summary

Stantec Consulting International Ltd. in downtown Vancouver is seeking an Intermediate/Senior Structural Engineer to lead a team of engineers on medium to large projects, designing building structures and related facilities.

You will utilize BIM to develop 3D models, coordinate with clients and consultants, manage scope and budget, and contribute to new standards while ensuring quality and code compliance. This role offers a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment across sectors such as

Qualifications

  • Registered P. Eng. with strong North American experience in structural design.
  • Thorough knowledge of NBC and applicable design codes and standards.
  • Expertise in structural systems, means, methods, materials and industry standards.
  • Advanced knowledge of seismic design and software such as SAP, ETABS, RAM.
  • Understanding of project document production and the link between drawings and specs.
  • Ability to review others' work for accuracy and manage time against budgets.
  • Experience with on-site field reviews and construction administration.
  • Self-starter, collaborative, and able to contribute in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience with Revit and AutoCAD is preferred; strong MS Office skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for independent or team work.

Responsibilities

  • Hands‑on structural design of buildings and facilities with calculations and documentation.
  • Develop structural systems and design details via sketches, models, and diagrams.
  • Use BIM to create 3D models and provide markups for junior staff.
  • Lead project coordination meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors.
  • Participate in client meetings and value analysis activities.
  • Assist in scope, budget, staffing, and schedule management.
  • Prepare and coordinate project specifications with construction documents.
  • Participate in constructability reviews and QA/QC on projects.
  • Contribute to development of new standards for the structural group.
  • Work on multiple projects concurrently.

Your Opportunity

As a result of our growing business, we have an immediate opportunity in our downtown Vancouver office for a Intermediate / Senior Structural Engineer. Your role is to work in an engineering leadership capacity and direct a team of engineers on medium to large sized projects. You will be required to design various building and related structures on a range of projects of differing complexity and construction value.


Stantec utilizes a team approach to the work – a team made up of the client, operators, stakeholders, and Stantec personnel. This approach leverages the collective experience and expertise of the team to create robust win-win solutions for our clients who come from manufacturing, food & beverage, transit, municipal, and national defense sectors. Some of our project types include new construction and renovation of:



  • Aircraft hangars


  • Food processing facilities


  • Warehousing and distribution centres


  • Vehicle maintenance facilities for light rail, heavy rail, bus, fleet, mining, etc.


  • Component manufacturing and assembly facilities


  • Other light industrial projects


  • Staff support facilities for the above facility types



Your Key Responsibilities


  • Hands‑on energized approach to the structural design of building structures and facilities including calculations and preparation of related document


  • Professional maturity to engage in the development of structural systems and preparation of design details through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats


  • Utilize BIM technologies in development of three‑dimensional models of building’s structural systems and provide markups for junior engineers/designers


  • Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub‑contractors, and vendors


  • Participate in client project requirement meetings and value analysis


  • Assist senior staff with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule


  • Preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents


  • Participate in constructability review


  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects


  • Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for the structural group


  • Work on multiple projects



Your Capabilities and Credentials


  • Registered P. Eng.


  • Thorough knowledge and experience in the application of National Building Code and other relevant design codes and standards


  • Strong knowledge of structural systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards


  • Advanced knowledge of seismic design of building structures and structural analysis‑design software such as SAP, ETABS, SAFE, RAM


  • Good understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications


  • Demonstrable ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage the Team’s time to meet project budget and schedule


  • Perform on‑site field reviews and manage construction administration effectively


  • Self‑starter with ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought


  • Experience with Revit and AutoCad is preferred.


  • Good understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.


  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with an ability to work either independently or with team members in a multi‑disciplinary environment



Education and Experience


  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with structural concentration; a Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering is preferred.


  • Minimum 10 years of solid North American experience in the structural design of building structures, preferably with significant responsible experience in steel and concrete construction.


  • Experience in construction reviews and report preparation is desirable.


  • Demonstrable experience in leading a team of engineers and technologists.



Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range

Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$94,600.00 - $137,100.00 Annually


Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
