Job description

Our client is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join a growing water and wastewater treatment design and fabrication team. This position is responsible for the structural design, coordination, and delivery of modular and site-built treatment facilities.

The role offers a unique combination of hands-on structural engineering and project involvement, with responsibility spanning concept development, detailed design, fabrication, transportation, installation, and commissioning. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, project management, suppliers, and clients to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high technical standard.

The organization designs and manufactures custom water and wastewater treatment systems for a wide range of communities and challenging environments. Systems are engineered to meet specific site and operational requirements and may be housed within custom containerized or steel-frame buildings. This is an opportunity to contribute to projects that support environmental protection and improve access to reliable water and wastewater infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the structural design of modular buildings, steel frames, foundations, equipment supports, platforms, and specialty structures.
  • Prepare and review structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Produce and review AutoCAD-based structural drawings, including plans, sections, details, and fabrication layouts.
  • Develop and coordinate 3D structural models to support interdisciplinary coordination, clash detection, and constructability reviews.
  • Design structures to accommodate transportation, lifting, installation, and modular shipping loads.
  • Coordinate structural interfaces with process, mechanical, electrical, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Design and review structural components associated with tanks and process containment systems, including supports, anchorage, access platforms, and equipment integration.
  • Review shop drawings, fabrication packages, and as-built documentation.
  • Provide engineering support throughout fabrication and construction, including troubleshooting field issues and resolving non-conformances.
  • Seal drawings and calculations in accordance with professional registration requirements.
Project & Technical Support
  • Support Project Managers with technical input related to project schedules, costs, risks, and deliverables.
  • Identify potential technical and constructability risks and develop practical mitigation strategies.
  • Support preparation of project documentation, including data books, O&M manuals, and as-built drawings.
  • Participate in technical meetings with clients, suppliers, contractors, inspectors, and internal teams.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing and fabrication teams to ensure designs are practical, efficient, and suitable for production.
  • Support projects through fabrication, transportation, site installation, and commissioning.
Experience
  • 5–10+ years of structural engineering experience, preferably involving industrial, modular, utility, or infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using AutoCAD for structural and fabrication drawings.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing construction, fabrication, and shop drawings.
  • Practical experience with 3D modelling software, such as Autodesk Inventor or similar platforms.
  • Experience coordinating or managing multi-disciplinary engineering projects.
  • Strong experience with steel structures, modular buildings, foundations, equipment supports, and related structural systems.
  • Experience working in a fabrication or manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with fabrication-driven design and close coordination with production teams.
  • Experience in water, wastewater, industrial, resource, or other infrastructure projects is considered an asset.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • P.Eng. designation in British Columbia, or eligibility for registration.
  • Ability to seal structural designs in BC.
  • Registration in additional Canadian provinces or territories is an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable structural and steel design codes.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis and design software.
  • Understanding of constructability, transportation limitations, lifting requirements, and site installation sequencing.
