Job summary

Join WSP's Property & Buildings team in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and help shape the built environment through impactful structural engineering projects.

As an Intermediate Structural Engineer, you'll contribute to the design, rehabilitation, and construction of complex facilities across sectors including science and technology, healthcare, commercial development, public safety, military infrastructure, and education.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required.
• P.Eng. designation in Nova Scotia or eligibility to obtain registration.
• 4–9 years of structural design experience in industrial, commercial, institutional, or military environments.
• Experience designing and analyzing steel, reinforced concrete, masonry structures.
• Knowledge of Canadian building codes and CSA standards; ability to use structural software.

Responsibilities

• Deliver structural engineering solutions across project phases from concept to construction.
• Conduct investigations, assessments, and inspections of facilities for safe, resilient outcomes.
• Develop designs, calculations, specifications, and cost estimates meeting codes.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Prepare technical reports and design documentation; communicate solutions clearly.
• Support budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning across multiple assignments.
• Apply current standards and emerging technologies for future-ready solutions.
• Assist with business development and client relationships while upholding quality and safety.

Working alongside a collaborative team of engineers, designers, and technical specialists, you'll play an integral role in delivering innovative and technically challenging projects from concept through construction. Your Impact

• Deliver structural engineering solutions for building projects through all phases, from concept development and preliminary design to construction and operation.
• Conduct structural investigations, assessments, and inspections of existing and proposed facilities to support safe, resilient, and sustainable outcomes.
• Develop structural designs, calculations, specifications, construction documents, and cost estimates that meet project objectives and code requirements.
• Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams to successfully execute complex building projects.
• Prepare high-quality technical reports, design documentation, visualizations, and presentations that clearly communicate engineering solutions.
• Support project delivery by contributing to budgeting, scheduling, resource planning, and technical coordination across multiple concurrent assignments.
• Apply current industry standards, emerging technologies, and best practices to develop future-ready structural solutions.
• Contribute to business development, client relationship building, and proposal pursuits while upholding WSP's commitment to quality, safety, and technical excellence.

The Skills That Set You Apart

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Nova Scotia, or eligibility to obtain registration.
• 4 to 9 years of experience in structural design within industrial, commercial, institutional, or military environments.
• Experience designing and analyzing steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and related structural systems.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian building codes, CSA standards, and structural analysis/design software such as STAAD, ETABS, SAP2000, or S-Frame.
• Demonstrated experience coordinating projects across multiple disciplines and engaging directly with clients and stakeholders.
• Ability to obtain a PSPC Security Clearance.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites and support field reviews and inspections.

MB & ON: $77,700 – $107,000
NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $76,900 – $102,100
