A reputable engineering firm in Belleville, Ontario is seeking a Structural Engineer. This full-time position involves managing multiple projects, performing design calculations, and mentoring junior staff. Candidates must have a P.Eng. license and extensive experience in engineering design. We’re EMS‑Tech: a successful and growing engineering firm that specializes in designs for bulk material handling. For over 30 years, we’ve been lending our expertise to projects great and small, leaving a trail of very happy clients in our wake. If you have technical design experience, along with a drive to learn and grow with a well‑established design / build company, then you may be our next experienced Structural Engineer.
As our new Structural Engineer, you’ll participate in the establishment of task scope, design concept, specification, schedules and budgeted hours for large material handling equipment projects, working on 2‑3 projects simultaneously. You’ll establish conceptual designs and complete analysis and calculation details to satisfy project needs and specifications. You will demonstrate expertise related to material handling equipment, systems and methods of analysis and design, including but not limited to conveyor design, steel codes such as AISC and CSA S16, hollow structural section design, welding codes such as AWS D1.1 and CSA W59, industry specific standards CEMA, FEM Section II, basic hydraulic design, basic bearing selection, basic motor power calculations, etc. You will use hand calculation methods as primary analysis tools, verify drawings and calculations, check supplier equipment drawings for accuracy and compliance with specifications, and demonstrate analytical skills using spreadsheet programs such as Excel, structural modelling software and finite element analysis techniques. Hand calculations must be used to verify structural modelling and finite element analysis methods. You will demonstrate advanced level CAD drafting skills and understanding of drawing presentation, produce drawings to EMS‑Tech Inc. standards, apply engineering science to daily work, and act as a mentor to less experienced personnel.
You will work with other design team members to maintain existing verification standards of programs, hand calculations, and drawings. Provide support to less experienced personnel, work with project team to resolve technical problem concerns, identify problems associated with project technical goals, propose solutions using creativity where appropriate. Communicate effectively and accurately with suppliers, customers and other design team members in both oral and written formats. Demonstrate excellent technical report writing skills for component and equipment inspections, as well as technical specifications. Adhere to EMS‑Tech Inc.’s confidentiality and intellectual property agreements and policies.

Working with EMS‑Tech this is a full‑time, permanent position with occasional overtime during busy periods. In addition to an attractive starting salary, between $75,000 and $100,000 per year commensurate with experience, you’ll receive a standard benefits package plus pension. We have flexible work arrangements and you will also have the ability to travel when needed internationally. Our office which is located in Belleville is a wonderful, vibrant place to live and work.
