Job summary

The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company is seeking a Strategy Consultant in its Corporate Strategy group. You will conduct market research on macro trends, industry dynamics, and competitors to identify opportunities and advise on strategic improvements.

This is a high-visibility role with direct exposure to executive leadership. You will influence strategic choices and contribute to enterprise planning while working on diverse projects across the organization.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of experience in insurance (P&C/Life).
• Bachelor’s or Post-secondary degree in Business or equivalent experience.
• CIP designation considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Conduct competitive intelligence research and strategic analysis for the Executive Leadership Team and the Board to support strategies that improve customer experience, revenue growth, and competitive advantage.
• Provide a strategic mindset and structured approach to identify, prioritize and resolve enterprise strategic and organizational issues.
• Monitor macroeconomics, industry, regulatory and company changes or strategic trends and communicate implications for the insurance industry and for Wawanesa.
• Perform financial analysis and competitor benchmarking to support strategic insights.
• Participate in strategic projects/initiatives and assist business partners by providing insights to refine their strategies.
• Contribute to gathering insights about emerging industry products and platforms to improve Wawanesa’s competitiveness.
• Assist in the enterprise’s strategic planning process for the Executive Leadership Team and the Board.

Job Overview

We are looking to hire a Strategy Consultant in our Corporate Strategy group at Wawanesa. As a Strategy Consultant, you will be conducting market research on macro trends, industry dynamics and competitors to identify key areas for business improvement and suggesting strategies to boost company performance. In this role, you will help Wawanesa’s senior leaders solve their business challenges and take advantage of market opportunities. Your insights will contribute to a diversity of ideas in working with business partners on unique and challenging strategy projects. As a thought partner, you will bring a unique point of view and ability to see the bigger picture to influence the direction of the organization and to drive impactful changes. This is a high visibility role with direct exposure to executive-level audiences. The Strategy Consultant will conduct competitive intelligence analysis that informs enterprise and Line of Business objectives. This strategic research will be focused on understanding market opportunities and leveraging competitive insights to shape strategic choices.

• Provide a strategic mindset and structured approach to help identify, prioritize and resolve enterprise strategic and organizational issues.
• Assist in monitoring and reporting regularly on macroeconomics, industry, regulatory and company changes or strategic trends as they relate to the insurance industry and their implications for Wawanesa.
• Conduct financial analysis and competitor benchmarking to support strategic insights.
• Participate in strategic projects / initiatives and assist business partners by providing supporting insights to help develop and refine their strategies.
• Contribute to the curation and insight gathering about emerging industry products and platforms that serve to improve Wawanesa’s competitiveness.
• As needed, assist in the enterprise’s strategic planning process for the Executive Leadership Team and the Board.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of experience in insurance (P&C/Life).
• Bachelor’s or Post-secondary degree in Business or equivalent experience.
• Previous experience in management consulting or corporate strategy considered strongly preferred.
• Strong research and analysis skills with demonstrated ability to consolidate large amounts of data into clear insights and executive style-ready storylines.
• Technical knowledge of the Insurance industry and sound knowledge of financial analysis, including key insurance metrics.
• Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills with the ability to effectively convey ideas in a persuasive and concise manner.
• Ability to structure to ambiguity and conceptual ideas; creative and lateral thinker who sees the bigger picture.
• Team-oriented, collaborative and flexible.
• Advanced skills in PowerPoint and Excel.
• Completion of CIP designation considered an asset.
• Ability and willingness to travel in Canada and the United States.
