Job summary

The Office of the Assembly in Ontario is hiring a Senior Purchasing Specialist to lead purchasing activities for diverse commodities across the Legislative Assembly and related offices. You will apply best practices, manage bids, and maintain records in a fast-paced, politically sensitive environment.

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, you’ll support clients with specifications, tender documents, and contract awarding, while negotiating for value and timely solutions.

Qualifications

  • University degree required; pursuing a certified professional purchasing designation.
  • 1–3 years’ experience beyond education.
  • Knowledge of negotiating techniques and cost breakdown analysis in public procurement.
  • Excellent client service and relationship-building with departments and vendors.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with contract law as it relates to procurement.
  • Experience managing multiple projects from planning to reporting.
  • Organized, responsive, and flexible with contracts.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and conduct purchasing for a diverse range of commodities for the Legislative Assembly, party caucuses, and offices.
  • Apply best purchasing methods, principles, and practices.
  • Maintain purchasing records, electronic filing systems, and contacts.
