Job summary

The North West Company in Winnipeg is seeking a Strategic Pricing Analyst to execute pricing strategies, manage adjustments, and summarize financial performance metrics to support decision-making.

Based at Gibraltar House, 77 Main Street, Wpg., MB, you will collaborate with Category Managers, review weekly price updates, analyze competitive checks, and oversee Special Ship pricing with the Pricing team. A 1-year term with opportunities for growth is offered.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Data Science, Economics, or related diploma with 2+ years of experience.
  • Strong Excel, PowerQuery, Access, and SQL skills.
  • Analytical thinker with problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the category pricing strategy using the DemandTec tool.
  • Collaborate with Category Managers to tailor pricing by banner and category.
  • Provide recommendations and challenge CM's pricing approaches.
  • Complete weekly price updates for assigned categories and review outcomes.
  • Analyze weekly competitive checks and adjust pricing.
  • Manage Special Ship pricing in coordination with Pricing team.
  • Work with Pricing Manager to meet category performance and financial goals.
  • Ensure timely delivery of price indices and retail updates.
  • Oversee Special Ship pricing execution with Pricing Analyst and Coordinator.

Status - Term (1 year)

In your role as Strategic Pricing Analyst at The North West Company (NWC), you will be responsible for the execution of NWC pricing strategies, overseeing required pricing adjustments, and providing summary of financial performance metrics. This includes making retail decisions that adhere to established strategy, along with modeling of alternative outcomes as to support effective decision-making.

Your Role
  • Uses the DemandTec Pricing tool to execute the category pricing strategy defined by the Category Managers (CMs).
  • Assigned to specific banners and categories, collaborating with CMs to gain in‑depth understanding of each category’s pricing approach.
  • Provides informed recommendations and constructively challenges CMs to ensure strong, banner‑aligned pricing strategies.
  • Completes weekly price updates for assigned categories and reviews outcomes with the Category Manager.
  • Analyzes weekly competitive checks and provides recommended pricing adjustments.
  • Executes the category pricing strategy for Special Ship items.
  • Works collaboratively with the Category Manager and Pricing Manager to establish and achieve category strategies, performance metrics, and financial goals.
  • Oversee the timely delivery of competitive price indices and retail updates in coordination with the Pricing Coordinator and Pricing Manager.
  • Manages the prompt execution of Special Ship pricing in partnership with the Pricing Analyst and Coordinator.
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Data Science, Economics, or a College Business Administration diploma combined with 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in analytical roles with strong technical capabilities, including Excel, PowerQuery, Access, and SQL.
  • Demonstrates excellent critical thinking and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Skilled in facilitation and presentations, with a proven ability to build and manage effective relationships.
  • Highly organized with strong time‑management skills.
  • Possesses strong financial acumen.
  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts, systems and industry best practices and apply these learnings to the continued development of the team/ support of the business.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to prioritize and accomplish work independently and within a team to meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills; and,
  • Ability to work well individually with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team.
