Job summary

Finning Canada is seeking a permanent, full-time Strategic Buyer II to join our team in either Edmonton or Calgary. You will oversee end-to-end procurement, including strategic sourcing, purchasing, PO management, and expediting to ensure timely delivery in a dynamic environment.

As a key partner to the business, you will optimize supplier performance, drive cost savings, and advance procurement excellence through ERP systems, standardized processes, and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• SCMP designation or related diploma preferred.
• 2 years procurement experience with strategic buying is a plus.
• Experience with spend analytics tools and/or e-procurement.
• Experience with Ariba/Sage/DBS/Lawson system or equivalent ERP system.
• Positive, can-do attitude and customer-focused approach.

Responsibilities

• Procure goods/services from preferred suppliers to fulfill customer demand and business needs (Indirect and Direct spend).
• Expedite emergency orders to achieve the highest reasonable level of service, considering vendor cut-offs and transport options.
• Follow-up with internal customers and vendors regarding delays, pricing, or quality issues.
• Support branches and departments to improve knowledge and adherence to procurement policies.
• Support Buyer IIIs with day-to-day functions.
• Provide back-up support for other team members during vacations or high-volume periods.
• Adhere to Procurement processes and maintain professional relationships with internal departments and vendors.
• Some travel may be required.

Job Description

Major Job Responsibilities

• Procure goods/services from preferred suppliers to fulfill customer demand as well as business needs (Indirect and Direct spend)


• Expedite emergency orders to achieve the highest reasonable level of service appropriate to the need, while considering vendor cut-off times, transportation alternatives, in-transit times, freight rates and vendor policies


• Follow-up with internal customers and vendors regarding delays, errors, pricing, or quality issues.


• Support branches and departments to improve knowledge, understanding of processes and procedures in alignment with Procurement policies.


• Support Buyer IIIs with day-to-day functions


• Provide back-up support for other team members during vacation, business travel, or high-volume periods.


• Responsible for consistent adherence to Procurement processes throughout


• Represent the company in a professional and ethical manner and maintain effective relationships with internal departments, staff, and our vendors, while maintaining proper confidentiality


• Some travel may be required, dependent on role.

Required Skills

• SCMP designation or diploma, Business or equivalent experience in a related field an asset


• Preferred 2 years of procurement experience with a focus on strategic buying.


• Experience with spend analytics tools and/or e-procurement


• Experience with Ariba/Sage/DBS/Lawson system/MRP or equivalent ERP system


• Positive, “can-do” attitude and customer focused approach, able to deal with challenging situations with integrity, empathy and passion.
