This role focuses on assessing stormwater infrastructure such as ponds, wetlands, outfalls, and oil and grit separators (OGS) to verify condition, identify deficiencies, and support preventive maintenance and maintenance planning activities. The Inspector provides technical expertise in erosion and sediment control (ESC), assists with emergency preparedness planning related to stormwater assets, and contributes to public and interdepartmental education on stormwater best practices.

Top Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Stormwater Asset Inspections - Inspect stormwater ponds, wetlands, oil-grit separators (OGS), outfalls, and other infrastructure to assess condition, functionality, and compliance.
  • Assess and Document Asset Conditions - Identify deficiencies, record findings, maintain inspection records, and support maintenance and long-term asset management planning.
  • Monitor Environmental Compliance - Detect and report erosion, sedimentation, illicit discharges, and other issues affecting system performance or regulatory compliance.
  • Inspect Construction Sites for Erosion and Sediment Control - Verify contractor compliance with erosion and sediment control requirements and recommend corrective actions when needed.
  • Collect Field Data and Samples - Gather stormwater quality data, erosion and sediment control information, and other field observations to support operational decision-making.
  • Maintain Asset Data and Inspection Systems - Update stormwater asset records, databases, inspection logs, and contribute to the development of SOPs and inspection procedures.
  • Support Emergency Response and Asset Protection - Assist with flood mitigation, emergency preparedness, post-storm inspections, and measures to protect stormwater infrastructure.
  • Provide Technical Expertise and Guidance - Support City departments, contractors, consultants, and staff with technical knowledge related to stormwater management and erosion control practices.
  • Prepare Reports and Communicate Findings - Analyze data, prepare inspection reports and recommendations, respond to public inquiries, and communicate professionally with stakeholders.
  • Coordinate Maintenance and Improvement Activities - Identify maintenance and capital improvement needs, troubleshoot stormwater system issues, coordinate with contractors and internal teams, and support project execution.

As our preferred candidate, you will have:

  • Diploma in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering Technology, Water/Wastewater Technology, or a related discipline.
  • A combination of education, certification, training, and directly related experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in stormwater, environmental compliance, or water resources in a municipal or related setting.
