Job description
Overview

This is a selection process to establish a pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates for current and future vacancies with the Department of National Defence (DND) in the Prairies region. Positions are on-site and may include temporary or permanent employment, various tenure arrangements, and language profiles. Applicants are not applying to a specific job but to an inventory for future opportunities. If a match is found, applicants may be contacted for further assessment.

Important dates: third wave of applications will take place on October 1, 2025. Applications for immediate needs in Wainwright, Shilo, and Cold Lake will be pulled on July 9, 2025. The second and third rounds are scheduled for August 6, 2025 and October 1, 2025 respectively. Apply before the indicated dates to be considered.

Selection processes

These selection processes cover multiple regional postings. Candidates applying to various regional posters will be assessed once; results may be applied to other processes if applicable. Specific process identifiers include regional groupings for Atlantic, Eastern, National Capital Region, Ontario, Pacific, and Prairies.

Locations and mobility

Intent of the process covers Cold Lake (AB), Edmonton (AB), Suffield (AB), Wainwright (AB), Shilo (MB), and Winnipeg (MB). Some roles may require mobility or onsite work at other DND locations. Applicants able to work onsite at other locations are invited to apply through the regional processes.

Work environment

DND seeks talented individuals who are dedicated to service. A pool may be established to staff identical or similar positions with varying employment tenures, language profiles, and operational requirements. All positions are on-site, and work is performed in person for scheduled hours.

Essential qualifications

Education and experience demonstrating eligibility. Essential qualifications are required to be considered for the position.

Experience
  • EX1: Experience working in a warehouse, shipping environment, or distribution center.
  • EX2: Experience providing customer service in a warehouse environment.

Language requirements

English essential. Language requirements may be determined at a later date depending on the position.

Asset qualifications and experience

Asset qualifications are additional qualifications that may be required. Examples include:

  • AE1: High school diploma or equivalent (CAEC or GED)
  • AOC1–AOC2: Hazardous material handling certifications
  • AEX1–AEX7: Various asset experiences (hazardous materials, shipping/receiving, inventory management, DRMIS/SAP, supervision, Microsoft Office, civilian-military environment)
Security and conditions of employment

Secret security clearance and/or Reliability Status may be required. Conditions may include: provincial driver’s license, ability to obtain DND 404 Driver/Operator Permit with forklift qualification, ability to lift items up to 20 kg, ability to work indoors/outdoors, overtime, occasional travel for training, PPE requirements, and ability to work in a warehouse with minimal supervision, confined spaces, ladders, and elevated devices. Staff must adhere to applicable ethics and conflict-of-interest policies; links provided in the posting to relevant policies.

Administrative notes

Applicants must be able to complete assessments independently and avoid using unapproved resources or AI tools.
