Under the guidance of the Geering Up Kelowna Coordinator and Assistant Manager, the STEAM Programming Facilitator supports the development, delivering, and evaluating STEAM programs throughout the Greater Okanagan and Kootenay regions. This hybrid role is based at UBC Okanagan in Kelowna and includes facilitating in-school workshops, clubs, camps, and events. The facilitator will also support the daily operations of the Geering Up Kelowna team to ensure programming is safe, inclusive, and engaging for all participants.
UBC Geering Up Engineering Outreach is an organization dedicated to promoting Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) concepts to the children and youth of British Columbia through fun, innovative, and hands‑on experiments and projects. Recognizing the systemic barriers that prevent many from pursuing careers in STEAM, Geering Up strives to make its programming inclusive and accessible to all, regardless of gender, ethnicity, culture, or socio‑economic status.
Over the past 30 years, Geering Up has reached more than 150,000 youth through summer camps, in‑school workshops, outreach trips, clubs, and community events. The UBC Okanagan campus has hosted Geering Up programming for the past 10 years, extending its impact throughout the Okanagan region. More information about Geering Up is available on our website.
UBC Geering Up Engineering Outreach delivers STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) outreach programming to children, youth, and teachers across the province of British Columbia. Many of Geering Up’s programs focus on giving underrepresented and marginalized groups access to STEAM education; therefore, ensuring adequate and valid employee qualifications, ensuring accurate training, and addressing employee conflict and other issues is essential both to the integrity of the programs, and the image of the organization.
This position is responsible for data related to financial and reach reporting, errors could result in direct financial loss, credibility, and the institution’s reputation. Inefficient administration could result in delays of appointments, impacting staff payroll.
*Preference may be given to applicants with training in special education and/or disability theory, or prior experience in outreach or similar programming.
