Position Summary

Reporting to the Coordinator of Theatre Technical and Facility Operations, the Stagehand - Lighting Technician will plan the safe and efficient installation of all lighting elements for productions, ensuring safety, longevity, and consistency while respecting the Director and Designer’s vision.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Establish and maintain safe, consistent, and respectful operations of all production lighting and equipment for performances.
  2. Coordinate lighting for performances and rehearsals.
  3. Program and cue intelligent, LED, conventional lighting equipment, and stage effects.
  4. Maintain and organize all lighting equipment, tools, supplies, and programs.
  5. Work with the technical team to develop and maintain a safe working environment, adhering to all safety regulations.
  6. Maintain and clean the stage, backstage, and shop areas related to lighting and stage effects.
  7. Establish emergency/contingency procedures for show systems with Stage Management and the technical team.
  8. Advise divisions on safety matters and participate in special projects/events as needed.
  9. Coordinate with other departments onstage to run performances and rehearsals.
  10. Perform functions in sound and deck as required.
  11. Adhere to all safety regulations and city policies to maintain a safe work environment.
  12. Work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  13. Be available for standby duties.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma
  • Post-secondary certification in a related field
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in theatrical lighting programming and installation
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar position on large-scale productions
Required Skills/Knowledge
  • Experience in stage management
  • Hands-on experience with various lighting consoles
  • Experience operating scissor lifts and knowledge of safety procedures
  • Ability to program and operate ETC Congo or Grand MA lighting consoles
  • Knowledge of lighting and effects equipment, wiring, and maintenance routines
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and creative skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team under pressure
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Google Calendar, and internet research
  • Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Good judgment and decision-making skills
