Job summary

Capital One Canada is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to drive end-to-end software design and leadership across multi-platform systems. The role emphasizes hands-on development, architecture, and collaboration within a hybrid work model.

You will mentor junior staff, guide technical directions, and ensure best practices in code reviews and design. Strong cloud experience (AWS, Azure, GCP) and a track record of delivering complex solutions are essential.

Qualifications

• At least 6 years of hands-on development experience with Java, Python, Go or other OO languages.
• At least 6 years of experience in application and/or data design, architecture and development.
• Experience with AWS or other cloud products (Azure, Google Cloud).
• Experience mentoring Junior/Intermediate Associates and guiding stakeholders.
• 8+ years of experience leading the full life-cycle of Software Development.
• Experience in an agile environment and familiar with agile development methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of a dynamic team throughout the Software Development Life Cycle.
• Act as a tech lead developer owning technical design and development of cross-functional, multi-platform, fault tolerant application systems.
• Continuously improve software engineering developer experience; identify gaps in existing internal framework and tools and contribute.
• Establish engineering best practices; identify and establish standards, such as code review standards.
• Provide technical expertise and problem solving; define technical standards and provide support to ensure best practices are met.
• Architecture ownership – apply understanding of evolving tech, follow High Level Design (HLD) and contribute to HLD.
• Provide mentorship to junior and intermediate associates through engineering best practices and standards.
