RBC in Toronto is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead development of our data platform and AI capabilities, shaping scalable solutions and elevating engineering standards across the team.
The role spans full-stack work with Java/Kotlin, Python, and React, API design, ETL pipelines, and DevOps practices. Strong PostgreSQL/Snowflake experience and enterprise system design are required.
The Staff, Software Engineer you will be a technical leader and engineer within our platform team, driving the development and evolution of our data platform and AI capabilities. You'll play a key part in the design and implementation of scalable solutions, raising the bar for engineering excellence. This is an opportunity to work on impactful, complex technical challenges that support RBC's strategic initiatives.
Design and implement full-stack solutions across Java/Kotlin, Python, React, PostgreSQL, and Snowflake
Design and implement APIs in Kotlin
System Integration:Ensure seamless interoperability between Java/ Kotlin components; optimize multi-threading architecture for enterprise environments
Lead ETL pipeline development and optimization, ensuring data flows efficiently and reliably
Architect and build scalable backend services and modern frontend applications
Champion AI/LLM integration and prompt engineering best practices across the team
Drive adoption of best-in-class testing frameworks, DevOps practices, and SDLC discipline
Participate in security and architectural design reviews
Manage GitHub repositories, Maven builds, and CI/CD pipeline improvements
Troubleshoot production issues and drive reliability improvement
Must have:
5+ years of software development experience across multiple languages and frameworks
Deep expertise in Java and Kotlinwith demonstrated experience building enterprise scale systems
Strong understanding of Python
Hands-on experience with backend data systemsand data pipeline development
Database experience with PostgreSQL and Snowflake (or similar data warehouses)
Strong Proficiency with DevOps tools(GitHub, Maven, CI/CD practices, containerization)
Strong understanding of testing frameworks and SDLC best practices
Highly skilled with API design and microservices architecture
Experience with multi-threading and enterprise-scale system design
Skilled with frontend development with React/ modern JavaScript
AI/LLM and prompt engineering experience
Security testing tools experience (Checkmarx, NexusIQ, or similar)
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
