Job description

Shift pattern for this position: Monday‑Friday 0800‑1800x2, 0800‑1730x2.

The Day Surgery Unit (DSU) at the New Victoria Hospital and the GGH Theatre suite are looking for scrub practitioners to join the team.

Responsibilities
  • You are required to be a First Level Registered Nurse or Registered Operating Department Practitioner. Experience in the perioperative environment is desirable.
  • Day Surgery and GGH theatres are fast paced environments and collaborative working is requisite as the successful candidate may require to work in multiple areas during their shift.
  • The ability to work on your own initiative but also as part of an integrated team is required.
  • You are required to demonstrate flexibility in the department as this post requires the successful candidate to become Dual Trained and skilled in at least 2 areas of the unit (e.g. Scrub/Anaesthetics).
  • Furthermore, you will be expected where necessary to engage in multi‑site working within South Sector NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde in order to achieve the needs of the service.
Qualifications
  • In order to apply to for this position you must have a live pin with the NMC UK.
  • As part of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s pre‑employment checking for all appointed candidates, evidence of current or predicted NMC/HCP registration will be required prior to start date.
  • This post requires PVG Scheme membership/Disclosure Scotland Check.
  • Candidates who are unable to provide confirmation of current or anticipated registration, in line with projected start date for this post, will not be shortlisted for interview.
Additional Expectations
  • The DSU at the New Victoria consists of 8 theatres, a Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU), a treatment room and a 23‑hour stay ward. The theatre sessions consist of a variety of specialties including Orthopaedics, General, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Maxilla Facial, Gynaecology, Plastics and a Pain Service.
  • GGH theatre suite consists of 13 theatres covering a variety of specialties including General Surgery, Brachytherapy, Oncoplastic/Breast Surgery, Urology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Orthopaedic elective/trauma and Interventional Radiology. Previous experience within the peri‑operative environment is a definite advantage however not essential as the department offers team support and continuing education opportunities.
  • The department is fully committed to increasing capacity which will require the successful applicant to care for patients with increasingly complex needs in the future; in line with the British Association of Days Surgery (BADS).
