Job summary

Calderdale Royal Hospital is seeking a Staff Nurse for the Beechdale Ward (Older Adult) with RMN qualification requirements. The role involves assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care within a multidisciplinary team, under supervision, in a busy mental health setting.

You will be supported to develop clinical competencies in a stimulating learning environment and encouraged to learn, grow, and maintain flexible working to meet patients’ needs.

Qualifications

Job Summary

We are currently seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to join our nursing team as a Staff Nurse on our Older Adult ward in Calderdale, known as Beechdale Ward.

Beechdale is a mixed gender ward based at The Dales Unit, Calderdale Royal Hospital and is for the assessment and treatment of any form of mental health condition for service users usually over the age of 65 years. Our multi-disciplinary ward team also comprises Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapy, a dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist and Consultant Psychologist.

As part of your role as a staff nurse on the ward you will be involved in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. Under the guidance of the nursing team, you will be supported in developing skills that will allow you to provide the highest standard of inpatient assessment, treatment, and care in a safe, therapeutic, and least restrictive environment as possible.

In turn you will be well supported and encouraged to develop your own clinical competencies within a stimulating learning environment. We encourage you to learn, develop and grow!

Job Description

Individuals Will Be Expected To:

Workload Management

• To work flexibly to cover shifts to provide a 365 day per year service
• Act as shift co-ordinator as required and to participate in the planning and co-ordinating of the shift to ensure smooth and effective running of the service and role model best practice
• Co-ordinate and lead the team to make effective use of team skills to provide the best possible standards of care and treatment / interventions
• To prioritise workload in keeping with the team and service objectives
• Take full involvement as a primary nurse by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating treatment / care for named service users

Communication

• Maintain accurate and up to date care plans for each service user
• Maintain effective use of systems for service user and carer documentation
• Contribute to keeping statistical service records, be involved in the evaluation process, as required by the manager
• Develop good working relationships with consultants, their teams and other trust teams and services to ensure effective service delivery and best use of resources
• Develop positive relationships with non‑statutory and voluntary agencies to develop working partnerships as appropriate to the service development and local delivery
• Positively embrace service user / carer involvement in all aspects of service delivery wherever and whenever possible
• Inform all service users of their right to access their care plan, and to actively encourage them to read, write / evaluate their care plan
