Job summary

BuildOps, based in Toronto, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to architect, build, and optimize our full-stack platform across frontend and backend. You will mentor engineers and influence best practices in a distributed team environment.

We require 8+ years in modern JavaScript/TypeScript, React.js, Node.js, GraphQL/REST, and SQL databases. The role offers a hybrid schedule with Tue-Thu in-office and generous equity and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on full-stack JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Expertise in React.js and scalable frontend architectures.
• Strong backend experience with Node.js, GraphQL APIs (Apollo/Relay) and RESTful services.
• Proficiency in SQL databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL).
• Experience with performance optimization, indexing, caching, and frontend rendering strategies.
• Experience with event-driven architecture, messaging systems, and real-time data processing.
• Knowledge of containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) and cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Experience with CI/CD environments and automated deployments.
• Track record of mentoring engineers and fostering growth and collaboration.
• Strong communication and technical writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and maintain the full-stack platform (frontend and backend).
• Lead technical decisions across the stack for performance and maintainability.
• Design, develop, and optimize APIs (GraphQL/REST).
• Improve database design and query optimization.
• Enhance UI components with Material-UI for a consistent UX.
• Own full-stack observability with logging and monitoring.
• Evaluate and introduce new technologies to drive innovation.
• Collaborate with QA to ship well-tested software.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews and pair programming.
• Lead cross-team technical initiatives aligned with goals.
