Capital One Canada is hiring a Staff Engineer - Data Engineering. You will own the technical design and development of cross-functional data systems, lead architecture decisions, and drive best practices across teams.

The role requires hands-on leadership, deep cloud experience, and a passion for scalable data platforms. You will mentor engineers, contribute to high-level design, and help shape the future of data-driven banking solutions in Canada.

Formación

• 6+ years of hands-on development experience with OO languages (Java, Python, Go) and a track record of delivering data-oriented systems.
• Experience with data design, modelling and architecture for large-scale apps.
• Proficiency with AWS or other cloud providers and modern CI/CD tooling.

Responsabilidades

• Own technical design and development of cross-functional, multi-platform data engineering systems.
• Provide architecture leadership and implementation excellence across the SDLC.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers to uplift engineering practices and standards.
• Define and enforce engineering best practices, code reviews, and standards across teams.
• Lead architecture discussions and contribute to high-level design decisions for data platforms.

This role does not have direct reports. We require advanced hands-on development, technical design, and architecture.

Your Responsibilities

• Work as part of a dynamic team throughout the Software Development Life Cycle
• Act as a tech lead developer owning technical design and development of cross-functional, multi-platform, fault tolerant application systems
• Continuously improve software engineering developer experience; identify gaps in existing internal framework and tools and contribute
• Establish Engineering best practices; identify and establish best practices and standards, such as code review standards
• Technical expertises and Problem solving; define technical standards and providing technical support to ensure Engineering best practices are consistently met
• Architecture ownership - apply strong understanding of how evolving technology affects domain, follow High Level Design (HLD) methodology and contribute to HLD
• Provide mentorship to junior and intermediate associates through engineering best practises and standards

Basic Qualifications

• At least 6 years of hands-on development experience preferably using Java, Python, Go or other object-oriented programming languages
• At least 6 years of experience with application development and/or data design, modelling and architecture
• Experience with AWS (highly preferred) or other cloud providers (Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)
• Experience providing mentorship to Junior/Intermediate Associates and guidance to technical and business stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

• 8+ Years of experience leading the full life-cycle of Software Development
• Bachelor's, Master’s or Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or in related field
• Experience with data privacy and regulatory compliance frameworks relevant to financial services.
• Experience working in an agile environment and familiar with agile development methodologies
• Working at Capital One.

The expected annual salary range for this position is $173,000 - $197,400.

This role is also eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es). Incentives could be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
