Job summary

Lions Housing Centres Inc. is seeking a permanent Staff Educator (0.4 EFT) in the Nursing unit to lead staff education, orientation, and competency development, collaborating with leadership to ensure safe, resident-centred care.

The ideal candidate will coordinate mandatory training, provide clinical education, and support quality improvement initiatives while maintaining compliance with Manitoba long-term care standards. Flexibility to meet operational needs is required.

Qualifications

  • Current registration with CRNM or CRPNM.
  • Nursing degree/diploma from a recognized institution.
  • Long-term care experience required.
  • Experience in staff education, orientation, clinical teaching, or competency assessment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Manitoba long-term care standards and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and delivers mandatory annual education in accordance with Manitoba long-term care standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develops, coordinates, and facilitates staff education sessions, in-services, workshops, and competency-based learning.
  • Provides education to nursing, healthcare aide, support, and other staff as appropriate.
  • Assists with orientation of new employees, students, agency staff, and volunteers as required.
  • Develops and maintains orientation and education materials.
  • Maintains accurate education records and staff competency documentation.
  • Monitors completion of mandatory education and follows up on outstanding requirements.
  • Develops annual education schedules in collaboration with leadership.
  • Identifies staff learning needs through observation, audits, incident reviews, quality indicators, resident care concerns, and staff feedback.
  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and bedside teaching to promote safe and evidence-informed practice.
  • Assesses staff competency and provides additional education or follow-up when required.
  • Supports the implementation of new policies, procedures, equipment, technology, and clinical practices through staff education.
  • Collaborates with managers and interdisciplinary team members to identify educational priorities and professional development needs.

Job Profile:

Lions Lions Housing Centres Inc. is recruiting for a permanent 0.4 EFT Staff Educator position. The Staff Educator is responsible for supporting the organization's staff education, orientation, competency development, clinical practice, quality improvement, and professional development initiatives.


Working collaboratively with the Director of Care, managers, clinical leadership, and the interdisciplinary team, the Staff Educator promotes safe, evidence-informed, and resident-centred care through education, coaching, mentoring, competency assessment, and ongoing staff development.


The Staff Educator will coordinate and deliver mandatory education, orientation, in-services, competency assessments, and other educational initiatives to support compliance with Manitoba long-term care standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.


Although the position is 0.4 EFT, the successful candidate must be flexible and adjust their schedule as operationally required. This may include day, evening, night, and weekend shifts to accommodate staff education, orientation, competency assessments, mentorship, and other organizational needs.


The Staff Educator may also be required to provide clinical support and perform other duties within their scope of practice as assigned by the Director of Care.

Job Responsibilities:

Staff Education and Development:

  • Coordinates and delivers mandatory annual education in accordance with Manitoba long-term care standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.

Clinical Practice and Support:

  • Promotes safe, quality, resident-centred care consistent with organizational policies and professional standards.
  • Provides clinical education and support to staff in areas of identified need.
  • Acts as a clinical resource and role model for staff.
  • Supports staff in applying policies, procedures, protocols, and best practices.
  • Provides guidance and education related to resident care, documentation, medication management, infection prevention and control, falls prevention, skin and wound care, restraint reduction, and other clinical areas.
  • Assists with addressing identified gaps in clinical practice through education, coaching, and competency development.
  • Supports continuity of care by communicating significant clinical or educational concerns to the Director of Care and appropriate leadership.
  • Participates in clinical initiatives and projects that promote quality resident care.
  • Maintains current knowledge of best practices and Manitoba long-term care requirements.

Quality Improvement and Audits:

  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and organizational projects.
  • Assists with clinical and operational audits as assigned.
  • Reviews audit findings and assists with developing and implementing education and follow-up plans.
  • Monitors compliance with identified clinical standards and organizational requirements.
  • Provides education based on audit findings, incident trends, quality indicators, and identified practice gaps.
  • Assists with accreditation and Manitoba standards compliance activities.Supports quality improvement initiatives and monitors educational outcomes where applicable.

Orientation and Competency Management:

  • Coordinates and/or participates in new employee orientation.
  • Ensures staff receive the education and competency training required for safe resident care.
  • Coordinates competency assessments and maintains appropriate documentation.Provides follow-up education when competencies are not demonstrated.
  • Supports orientation and competency development for agency staff and students as required.
  • Collaborates with managers to identify staff requiring additional education, coaching, or competency assessment.

On-Call and Flexible Work Requirements:

  • Participates in the organization's on-call requirements as assigned.
  • Maintains flexibility to work day, evening, night, and weekend shifts when required to meet operational and educational needs.
  • May be required to attend the workplace outside of regularly scheduled hours for urgent education, orientation, competency assessments, or other operational requirements.
  • Provides education and support across all resident care areas as required.
  • Responds to changing organizational priorities and adjusts educational activities accordingly.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Care.

Your education and qualifications:

  • Current registration with CRNM or CRPNM.
  • Nursing degree/diploma from a recognized institution.
  • Long-term care experience required.
  • Experience in staff education, orientation, clinical teaching, or competency assessment is preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Manitoba long-term care standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of MDS is an asset.
  • Experience with clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives is an asset.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong presentation, teaching, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, problem solve, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment.
  • Knowledge of employment standards and occupational health and safety is an asset.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Satisfactory Adult Abuse Registry Check.
  • Up-to-date immunization.
