Jane is looking for a Staff Developer to lead the Patient Booking Web team. You’ll shape architecture, code in React, TypeScript, and Rails, and mentor engineers early in their careers.
You’ll champion accessibility, keyboard navigation, and screen reader support while collaborating on a shared component library to improve the booking experience. This role emphasizes safe rollouts, AI-assisted migrations, and cross-team collaboration.
Hi, I'm Shane, and I lead the Patient Booking Web team at Jane. I started out writing software for medical devices and for oceanographers. Over the last decade or so I've led development teams at places like Amazon, Hootsuite, and Coinbase. What I care about most is building software that real people rely on, inside a team where everyone gets to grow.
Patient Booking Web is a newer team with a very public-facing job. We own the places patients go on the web to connect with their clinic: the online booking page, My Account, and the booking experience clinics embed on their own websites. Every time a patient books a physio session, a massage, or a counselling appointment online, they're using something we built. Making that moment simple and welcoming is one of the most direct ways we get to help the helpers.
The work ahead is big. We're modernizing patient booking and moving it to React one piece at a time, and it stays live the whole way for every clinic and patient who depends on it. Along the way we want booking to be truly accessible, so patients using a keyboard or a screen reader can book as easily as anyone else. We also want booking to work well on a phone and to be easy for clinics to embed wherever their patients are. We have plans and architecture ideas we're excited about, and we'd love someone to pressure test them and look around the corners we haven't checked yet.
That's where you come in. As our Staff Developer, you'll be the technical leader on a small, curious team. You'll help shape the architecture, write code alongside us, and mentor developers who are earlier in their careers and eager to grow. If turning a long-lived product into something patients love sounds like fun to you, I'd really like to meet you.
If you don't meet every single qualification but are excited about this role, we'd still love to hear from you.
Jane is a founder-led, high-growth SaaS company born in North Vancouver, British Columbia. We're now a team of more than 700 people working remotely across Canada, the US, and the UK, united by our mission to help the helpers. We're all responsible for being deeply connected to their needs, obsessed with improving their experience, and proud of the difference our work makes in their day-to-day lives. Jane is growing fast, and that growth brings exciting challenges that call for adaptability, resilience, learning agility, and humility. We're proud of what we've built and quick to admit what we don't know yet. We listen, learn, and adjust as we go. Our goal isn't just delivery, it's delight. We move quickly, communicate openly, and solve real problems together.
