Job summary

RBC seeks a Lead Data Engineer to drive data architecture and governance for Investor & Treasury Services. You will lead Azure Databricks ecosystems, optimize Power BI analytics, and collaborate with business SMEs and data stewards to enable scalable self-service analytics.

Experience across cloud platforms, data pipelines, and security controls is essential to delivering enterprise data solutions for a global organization.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering with hands-on system integration and cloud architecture.
  • Strong experience with Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, Spark optimization, and data governance.
  • Proficiency across Python, SQL Server, Elastic stack, and Power BI.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and support enterprise data architecture and governance across the organization.
  • Build real-time data pipelines and integrate data with cloud platforms via APIs.
  • Manage Azure Databricks clusters, compute resources, and workspace optimization.
  • Optimize Power BI reporting infrastructure, semantic models, and dashboards.
  • Establish Power BI administration and workspace governance, plus user access management.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and stakeholders on requirements and analytics delivery.

Job Description

As Lead Data Engineer in Investor & Treasury Services Data Engineering team within Technology and operations office, you will design, implement, and support enterprise data architecture best practices and processes across the global Investor and Treasury Services organization, aligning with corporate vision. We seek a strategic thinker and passionate data management leader to drive data strategy execution, including Azure Databricks infrastructure management , Power BI optimization, analytics administration, workspace governance, and reporting infrastructure to enable self-service analytics at scale.

As a member of a dynamic, fast-paced team, this role demands strong data architecture and engineering expertise, advanced analytics platform leadership, exceptional communication skills, strong work ethic, and demonstrated ability to multitask effectively in changing environments.

What Will You Do?

This role encompasses end-to-end system oversight from data sourcing, lineage, transformation, and storage through Azure Databricks governance and Power BI analytics optimization to support complex advanced analytics and data governance needs, requiring extensive collaboration with Business Architecture, System Architecture, Business SMEs, and Data Stewards.

  • Build real-time data pipelines (inbound, outbound) through container-based solutions and Azure Databricks
  • Integrate data with cloud-based platforms; publish data through APIs and Portal
  • Manage Azure Databricks clusters, compute resources, and workspace optimization for scalable data processing
  • Optimize Power BI reporting infrastructure, semantic models, and dashboard performance across the organization
  • Establish Power BI administration best practices, workspace governance frameworks, and user access management
  • Manage analytics workspaces, capacity planning, and optimization to support enterprise self-service analytics
  • Participate in data curation requirements; support data and digital needs of business and technology stakeholders
  • Evaluate current state of data access control (authentication, authorization, encryption) across I&TS systems; develop and support remediation strategies
  • Work in agile teams with Data Engineers, Developers, and RBC business stakeholders
  • Collaborate with data scientists, process engineers, and business stakeholders on requirement gathering; assist with prescriptive and predictive analytics through consolidated data pipelines leveraging Azure Databricks
What You Need To Succeed
Must Have:
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering with at least 5 years of hands-on experience in system integration, data and cloud architecture, and technologies listed below:
    • Data Engineering: Python, Kafka, MS SQL Server, Elasticsearch stack, Azure Databricks
    • Cloud and Containers: Azure (ADLS2, Azure Databricks), OpenShift, Docker
    • SQL/Database: Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL, Stored procedures
    • API: Node.JS, Apigee
    • Power BI & Analytics: Power BI (report development, semantic modeling, workspace administration, capacity management), DAX, Power Query
    • Security frameworks: LDAP, Kerberos, OAuth 2.0, Vault integration
  • Strong knowledge of algorithms and data structures
  • Demonstrated experience with Azure Databricks cluster management, Delta Lake, and Spark optimization
Nice to Have:
  • Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Automation/DevOps: Jenkins, Selenium, and similar technologies
  • Source code control: GIT
  • Experience working in agile/SaFe environment
  • Advanced Power BI certifications (Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate or similar)
