Qualifications

  • University degree in Commerce or Finance.
  • Bachelor-level accounting knowledge is expected.
  • Experience in public accounting is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare working paper files (audits, reviews, compilations); financial statements and notes; corporate and personal tax returns.
  • Assist supervisor with the preparation of assurance engagement files including audits and reviews.
  • Understand client business to propose sound alternatives and conclusions.
  • Prepare basic financial statements as part of working papers.
  • Prepare basic corporate tax returns and personal tax returns.
  • Summarize client financial information in accounting packages or spreadsheets.
  • Collaborate with Welch Cornwall team to ensure efficient completion of tasks.

About the Opportunity

Welch LLP is currently looking for experienced Staff Accountants whose primary tasks will include preparing notice to reader engagements, participating in audits, and preparing personal and corporate tax returns. Due to continued growth and expansion of our office, we are adding to our team and seeking a qualified candidate for this position. Various start dates in fall of 2026 and early 2027 are available – please indicate your preference in your cover letter.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Preparation of working paper files (audits, reviews, compilations); financial statements and notes; corporate and personal tax returns
  • Assist supervisor with the preparation of various assurance engagement files which would include audits and reviews.
  • Understand client’s business and their needsthereby allowing you to recognize problems, analyze and propose sound alternatives and conclusions.
  • Prepare basic financial statements as part of the working paper files.
  • Prepare basic corporate tax returns.
  • Prepare personal tax returns.
  • Summarize client financial information in accounting packages or spreadsheets.
  • Becoming part of the Welch Cornwall team; fostering strong relationships and working together for the efficient and effective completion of all tasks.
Qualifications
  • University degree in Commerce Accounting or Finance
  • Working towards fulfilling the experience requirements required for the CPA designation is an asset but not required for this role
  • Some work experience in accounting or public accounting would be an asset
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset
  • Ability to plan, organize, manage conflicting deadlines, and set priorities
  • Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with clients.
  • Experience managing a variety of responsibilities in a professional manner
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in an ever-changing environment
  • Proficiency with computers, accounting systems and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Access to a vehicle is a necessity; willing to travel from the office on occasion
  • Ability to work overtime as needed to accommodate client needs
