Job summary

Farnham + Company in Mississauga is seeking a staff accountant eager to contribute to compilation, audit and review engagements and to prepare corporate and personal tax returns.

You will work both independently and on small teams with a client-focused mindset, manage deadlines and develop strong relationships with diverse clients in a warm, collaborative boutique environment.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate accounting degree required with Canadian public accounting basics.
• Minimum 1 year of Canadian public accounting experience (or 2 co-op terms).
• Strong knowledge of personal and corporate Canadian income tax.
• Proficient in CaseWare, Taxprep, and Excel.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and able to meet tight deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and client service skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare compilation engagements for clients in various industries.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Role Overview

We are looking for a staff accountant, who is eager to contribute to and learn from our growing team. This individual will work on compilation, audit and review engagements, corporate and personal tax returns, independently and as part of small teams of accounting rock stars. Our clients come from all industries and in all sizes. This breadth of the client base requires a solid command of accounting, assurance and tax fundamentals. This variety can be challenging for some, but for the right person it opens doors to constant learning, personal growth, and a rewarding career.

We have laid out some of the performance expectations below but, to be honest, sky is the limit – if you find a way to make the firm better – just do it!

Performance Expectations

• Preparing compilation engagements for companies in a variety of industries;
• Assisting on audit and review engagements for companies in a variety of industries;
• Preparing corporate tax returns;
• Preparing personal tax returns;
• Managing one’s own schedule to ensure client reporting deadlines are met;
• Creating time efficiencies and managing multiple deadlines;
• Contributing to our positive team dynamic with all levels of staff and management; and
• Developing respect-based relationships with clients and team members.

Credentials

• Undergraduate degree with specialization in accounting;
• Minimum of 1 full year of Canadian public accounting experience (or 2 full co-op terms at a mid-sized public accounting firm);
• Strong knowledge of personal and corporate Canadian income tax rules;
• Strong working knowledge of CaseWare, Taxprep, and Excel;
• Strong financial acumen and analytical agility;
• Detail-oriented, organized, and able to meet tight deadlines;
• Self-motivated, results-driven, and prefers to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment;
• Proven prioritization, time management, and project management skills;
• Effective written and verbal communication skills;
• Strong interpersonal and client service skills;
• An ability to build strong client relationships; and
• A strong belief that accounting can be fun!
