Overview

TRIUMF's Superconducting Radiofrequency (SRF) research program is operated as part of a dedicated TRIUMF-based SRF facility, Canada’s only centre for the research, design, testing, and assembly of SRF accelerator technologies. SRF is at the cutting edge of radio frequency (RF) accelerator technology, enabling the operation of more efficient, powerful, compact and cost-effective accelerators.

Principal responsibilities
General
  • Provides technical support to activities supported by the group or department including maintenance, break fix, upgrades or projects under the general guidance of a senior mentor or mentors
  • Work can include
  • Completion of hardware assemblies under the guidance of a senior mentor
  • Completion of specialized cleaning and processing of hardware under the guidance of a senior mentor
  • Documentation of tasks to support group records
  • Basic machining for prototyping and fixturing
Specific
  • Provides moderately complex technical or design support for the Hi-Lumi project or to back-fill other projects at TRIUMF supported by the SRF group
Knowledge and Skills

The position requires:

  • Demonstration of a technical aptitude with demonstrated hands-on experience
  • Knowledge of Solid Works and demonstrated design capabilities in Solid Works
  • The ability to follow standard procedures while working on problems of moderate scope
  • The ability to apply defined practices and procedures in the analysis of a situation or data
  • Ability to exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actions and obtain solutions
  • Ability to build productive internal/external working relationships
  • Probe and listen carefully; present information clearly and in an appropriate style; make technical information clear; persuade others in straightforward situations
Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW)

Some work will require access to exclusion areas where there are activated components. The position requires the incumbent to be trained as a NEW. This is required to access and work in areas that are limited to NEWs, as well as for planning and conducting work in radiation environments. This training will be provided by TRIUMF to the successful candidate.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience
  • Requires technical certification in a related discipline and a minimum of 1 year of related experience
  • Requires broad knowledge in technical area of expertise including practises and approaches relevant to providing technical support to the SRF group
  • General knowledge in vacuum or cryogenic technologies is expected
  • Demonstrated design capabilities in Solid Works

Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada, either as a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or with a work permit valid for at least 2 years after the start date.

Salary: $59,925 CAD plus our comprehensive employer-paid benefits plan
