Job summary

State Street's Charles River Development team is seeking a strong full-stack engineer to design and implement complex wealth and investment management workflows. You will work across rich web functionality, backend services, automated testing, and performance engineering to deliver scalable solutions.

The role requires Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, SQL, and experience with cloud and modern architectures such as Azure, Kubernetes, and microservices.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics or other technical course of study required.
• 4 to 7 years of progressively responsible professional software engineering experience.
• 2 to 5 years of experience in financial services developing solutions for Portfolio Management, Trading, Compliance, Post-Trade, IBOR or Wealth Management is strongly desired.
• Hands-on development experience with Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, SQL and related software engineering technologies.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to work well with peers in a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

• Work under minimal supervision to analyze, design, develop, test, and debug small to large software enhancements and solutions within Charles River’s business and technical problem domains, with strong ownership of delivery quality and maintainability.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts and Product Managers to turn business requirements of moderate complexity into working and sustainable software.
• Participate in the design of product architecture within the team’s scope of responsibility, contributing to scalable, supportable, and sustainable technical solutions.
• Develop, test, debug, and implement software programs, applications, and services using Java, C#, SQL, React, or other related software engineering technologies.
• Provide thoughtful insight and suggestions in code reviews.
• Write unit and automation tests to ensure a high-quality product.
• Mentor junior developers and help establish engineering best practices across the team.
• Conduct manual tests to ensure a high-quality product.
• Contribute to written design and API documentation and participate in the customer documentation process.
• Actively participate in the agile software development process by adhering to the CRD scrum methodology, including attending daily standups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives.
• Participate in cross-team group activities to complete assignments.

Required Qualifications

• Hands-on development experience with relevant technologies from this role, including Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, SQL, and related software engineering technologies, with the ability to deliver sustainable solutions with minimal supervision.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to work well with peers in a collaborative team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with modern web application development using React and related libraries.
• Demonstrated experience with object-oriented programming, REST APIs, event-driven systems, automated testing, scripting, and performance-focused engineering practices.
• Previous experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, Postgres, or Oracle.
• Experience with cloud and modernization technologies relevant to this role, such as Azure, Kubernetes, Kafka, micro-services, and event-driven architecture.
• Experience with engineering and operational tools such as Dynatrace, SolarWinds, and Temporal workflow engine would be helpful.
• Previous experience in investment management services such as developing solutions for Portfolio Management, Trading, Compliance, Post-Trade, IBOR or Wealth Management is strongly desired
• Experience with AI-assisted software development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Agentic AI tools is preferred.
• Experience with C# and WinForms is valuable for maintaining legacy software components.

Salary Range

$91,000 - $140,500 Annual
