Job description

Some of what you will do:
Provide AS400 based applications development and support services, including requirements and development specifications, delivery schedules, programming, testing and implementation to deliver high quality business information processing systems.

Specifically, You Will:
Design/Development/Maintenance: 80%

  • Responsible for delivery of assigned projects through the entire life cycle on a committed timeline.
  • Provide AS400 based applications development and support services, including requirements and development specifications, programming, testing, and implementation to deliver high quality business information processing systems.
  • Set up and maintain up to date development and test environments.
  • Maintain optimal software integrity, continuity and efficiency
  • Project planning - Develop and present systems, solutions, designs, specifications, development requirements and schedules.
  • Provide regular status updates of projects in progress.
  • Plan and prioritize programming events.
  • Develop schedules for delivery of program implementation.
  • Control and coordinate implementation of new applications and systems software, (i.e. upgrades, enhancements, fixes)
  • Assist in major AS400 operating system upgrades as required.
  • Work with third parties, (e.g. JDA, IBM, Staples U.S.) to determine problem solutions and corrective actions.
  • Perform 24/7 on-call support for critical business applications

Support: 20%

  • Provide training on applications and AS400 tools to and various levels of the user and I.S. communities.
  • Provide AS400 technical training to I.S. staff.
  • Develop, enhance, implement support and maintain AS400 applications systems.
  • Provide documentation on applications and tools to other I.S. staff.
  • Responsible for items of moderate value such as a Personal Computer and various office supplies and equipment

Some of what you need:

  • Post Secondary education or equivalent work experience
  • Strong knowledge of system analysis, design, RPG400 programming techniques and data communications/network concepts.
  • Solid understanding of the OS400 environment including Database, Query and Library/File structures
  • Good knowledge of general AS400 hardware and software products

Minimum 7-10 years experience in applications software development with 4 years hands on experience in an AS400, RPG400 environment with most recent two years in an advanced application systems development capacity.
