Job summary

Amazon in Toronto is seeking a Sr. Software Dev Engineer for the Aurora Control Plane and Aurora Security, focused on building hyper-scale database services in the cloud with direct impact on AWS customers.

You will design, implement, and own major database components, mentor engineers, and drive the full software development lifecycle from design to deployment. This on-site role requires 5+ years of experience and a strong foundation in scalable systems.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language.
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture of new and existing systems (design patterns, reliability, and scaling).
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Deliver software features and improvements to major portions of the team’s software.
• Work with customers, stakeholders, and peers to understand and deliver the right solutions.
• Design software solutions to enable new features or improve existing ones.
• Perform operational work to solve customer problems and enhance the team’s operations.

Looking to be part of a team building hyper-scale database services in the cloud? Do you want to revolutionize the way people manage vast volumes of data in the cloud where you have direct and immediate impact on hundreds of thousands of users who use AWS database services?

Aurora is a distributed, fault-tolerant database service, leveraging a self-healing storage system which performs up to five times faster than standard MySQL databases and three times faster than standard PostgreSQL databases.

As an Engineer on the team you will design and implement major database components to allow Amazon Aurora to scale and perform for the growing customer demands under the project of Aurora Global Database.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver software features and improvements to major portions of the team’s software.
• Work with customers, stakeholders, and peers to understand and deliver the right solutions.
• Design software solutions to enable new features or improve existing ones.
