Novarc Technologies is looking for a skilled and experienced Senior Robotics Field Service Technician to join our growing team and support the production of our cobots.
Summary

As a Senior Robotics Field Service Technician, reporting to the Director of Customer Support, your primary responsibilities will be to ensure Novarc’s NovAI systems are installed, commissioned, and handed over at client sites.

Work Environment

This position requires 25% - 75% travel, primarily within North America and occasionally globally. Travel expenses are covered, and technicians will have the opportunity to be home every weekend.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • System Deployment & Commissioning: Lead the end-to-end installation, mechanical/electrical commissioning, and handover of NovAI robotic welding systems (including Miller, Aubo, UR, Fanuc, ABB, and Yaskawa).
  • Technical Bridge: Act as the primary technical bridge between engineering, product, and the Customer Operations team, ensuring product rollouts and solutions are well delivered to and understood by the Customer Operations team.
  • Technical Support & Troubleshooting: Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients; provide on-site and remote support for robotic motion issues, calibration drift, and communication protocols.
  • Integration & Automation: Collaborate with AI and Controls teams to integrate PLC programming (Omron, Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and I/O mapping into welding processes.
  • Project & Site Management: Coordinate site readiness with clients, manage subcontractors/vendors, and develop documentation for workflow processes.
  • Safety & Compliance: Establish and enforce robotic safety protocols and ensure all welding activities comply with relevant industry and environmental regulations.
  • Field Travel: Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time, primarily within North America with potential international assignments.
  • Strategic Communication: High-level verbal and written communication skills; must be able to effectively translate complex technical issues for cross-functional teams, management, and customers.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Professional Experience: 10+ years as a robotic integrator in industrial automation, with at least 5 years specifically in robotic welding and 3 years in commissioning.
  • Robotic Expertise: Advanced proficiency in robotic arm programming and calibration (TCP, base frames, multi-robot sync, and external axes - positioners, tracks, turntables) for ABB, FANUC, and Yaskawa.
  • Welding & Hardware Knowledge: Deep experience with robotic welding processes (GMAW/MIG, FCAW, SAW, Pulse), welding power sources (Fronius, Lincoln, Miller) and cell equipment (positioners, torch cleaners)
  • Path-finding & Seam-tracking Technologies: 1D/2D/3D laser scanners, structured light sensors; brands like Servo-Robot, Scansonic, Meta Vision, Laser Vision Systems, Mech-Mind
  • Technical Literacy: Ability to read/interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and robot cell layouts; highly trained in electrical control systems.
  • Education: College Advanced Diploma or equivalent in Robotics, Welding, or a related technical field.
  • Self Management: Proven ability to work independently at customer sites, lead technical resolutions under pressure, and maintain a positive, solution-oriented attitude.
Nice to Have
  • Advanced Programming: Experience with offline robot programming/simulation tools (Octopuz, Virtual Components, RoboDK, Robomaster, ABB RobotStudio, FANUC ROBOGUIDE.) and custom post-processor development.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Understanding of welding metallurgy, WPS/WPQR standards, and AWS/CWB codes.
  • Technical Environment: Familiarity with Linux OS, digital twin workflows, and simulation-driven cell validation.
  • Project Leadership: Experience leading field teams, managing large deployment projects, or working within heavy fabrication industries (shipbuilding, pressure vessels).
