Job description

The role Senior Manager, Data Engineering is a key role responsible for leading and managing the Horizon3 Labs data and architecture platform and services. This role will work very closely with the global D&A Data Engineering and Architecture teams to ensure full integration for data sources, architecture design and delivery of use cases is compliant with Unilever global standards. The role is responsible for leading a team of data engineers engaged in Horizon3 Lab projects and ensuring delivery of tasks in full and on time. Reporting to the Head of AI Horizon3 Labs, the Senior Manager, Data Engineering will be part of the Horizon3 Labs leadership team and work closely with both governance and technical leadership to ensure program completion and successful delivery of initiatives.

Job Responsibilities
  • Closely collaborate with and foster strategic relationships with GDT global data and architecture teams.
  • Lead the design and implementation of all data assets and services related to H3L innovation initiatives.
  • Additionally, organize, guide and align multiple project sub-teams and competing stakeholders, toward a common goal with clear timelines for delivery.
  • The Senior Manager, Data Engineering will attain a detailed understanding of the ‘end to end’ scope of the H3L plan and will be at the heart of data and architecture decision making and execution.
  • This role requires the ability to work with and influence senior stakeholders in both business and DF/GDT space.
  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop and implement sustainable future fit engineering and architecture solutions supporting the roadmap and successful delivery of H3L innovation projects and initiatives.
  • Design, develop solutions ensuring ease of application support by DevOps by designing both technical and process aspects.
  • Drive excellence in data engineering processes for intelligent data solutions across data ingestion/data pipeline frameworks, intelligent design & harmonisation, data warehouse & data lake architectures, cognitive computing, and cloud services within the scope and operating model of H3L.
  • Foster strong partnerships with AI practitioners, data science, tech and governance teams within H3L as well as enterprise & solution architects and other stakeholders to understand data needs and processes and provide data solutions that drive successful delivery of AI innovation use cases.
  • Partner with Microsoft, Databricks and other technology vendors managing vendor relationships for data-related services and solutions to meet H3L needs.
  • Enforce adoption of brilliant basics – architecture design, data design and modelling, data provisioning, cost optimisation, security and other best practices through H3L delivery teams and within the data engineering function.
  • Nurture a high-performing data engineering team through mentoring, training, and career development, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment that encourages growth and innovation.
  • Drive adherence to GDT strategy and best practices across Unilever
Stakeholder Management
  • AI Hub and D&A Leadership Team (esp. Data Science and AI Global Leads, HR Lead, Finance Business Partner, AI Hub Technology Leads).
  • Global D&A Data ad Architecture Teams.
  • External Technology Partners (Microsoft etc.)
Required Qualifications
  • Experience in building data engineering / architectures solutions to meet the long-term business objectives at scale, with the agility to flex to deliver urgent requirements.
  • Hands on experience in data architecture, design, implementation, and design of modern Data & AI Solutions (i.e. new data strategies and designs across all data platforms (relational, dimensional, and NoSQL) and data tools)
  • Stakeholder management in a matrix organization, and partnership with exec leaders of technology vendors, influencing product roadmaps.
  • Detailed knowledge of current and emerging analytics, AI, data, and technology trends, delivering leading edge capabilities whilst managing quality, complexity, total cost of ownership, security, risk and maintainability.
  • Strong knowledge of the data lifecycle management & design patterns
  • Working knowledge of Azure stack, Databricks, SQL and Python.
  • Understanding of Big data framework
  • Working knowledge of Spark Framework
  • Working knowledge of Data Modelling (entity, dimensional and Graph type modelling)
  • Ability to influence Tech Product roadmaps.
  • People leadershipand talent development experience.
  • FMCG or related experience
  • Agile methodology and practice
  • Graduate Degree in a technical field (Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics), Masters/PHD an asset.

Pay: The pay range for this position is $113,900-$156,600. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.

Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.

Long-Term Incentive (LTI): This position is LTI eligible.
