Job description

This role is considered Hybrid, which means the employee will work 2-3 days onsite at a company‑designated location and occasionally from home. This role is a 1-year contract position with the possibility of extension.

Position Summary

We are looking for a Software Engineer who reflects the innovative spirit, creative talent, production excellence, collaborative mindset and passion for great filmmaking that define Lucasfilm.

As a Senior Software Engineer for Information Systems (InfoSys), you will work on robust cross‑platform applications that enable Lucasfilm and its subdivisions to efficiently create and distribute movies and TV shows. You will build new websites, support and enhance existing internet sites such as ILM.com, Lucasfilm.com and Skysound.com, extend and develop the global company intranet, and integrate third‑party applications into existing software infrastructure. You will interact with a wide range of clients, learn new workflows, and come up with creative solutions to increase efficiency and productivity across all of Lucasfilm.

Responsibilities
  • Engineer and maintain public‑facing websites including front‑end and back‑end development as well as AWS infrastructure, testing, caching, analytics, accessibility, security and privacy requirements.
  • Manage and deploy WordPress plugins, themes and extensions; review, design and support existing code within WordPress environments.
  • Engage directly with key stakeholders to support, migrate and build elegant, user‑friendly interfaces for large‑scale external websites; offer customer training and documentation for editors.
  • Perform full‑stack development of globally used new and legacy web‑based applications.
  • Create and deploy virtual machines and AWS containers; manage infrastructure to ensure availability, functionality and security.
  • Provide input on the architecture of public websites and applications; build standalone modules and smaller web applications for use by clients across the organization.
  • Ensure code is developed, deployed, documented, tested and maintained in keeping with IS guidelines for GitLab repositories.
  • Participate in code reviews, test new concepts and technologies, suggest improvements in technical direction and estimate requirements.
  • Liaise with designers to decide on UI/UX elements such as graphics and navigation.
  • Profile and optimize website performance.
  • Build sites that are mobile‑friendly, well‑tested and engineered for responsiveness.
Education / Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical degree.
  • 8+ years experience in professional software development.
  • 3+ years developing and maintaining WordPress applications.

The hiring range for this position in Vancouver is C$112,100 to C$150,200 per year based on a 40‑hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job‑related knowledge, skills and experience among other factors. A full range of medical, financial and other variable pay or benefits may be offered dependent on the level and position offered.
