Job summary

Maple Leaf Foods Inc. in Mississauga is seeking a qualified SG&A Finance Analyst to forecast, report and analyze SG&A and centralized costs. You will work closely with SG&A and cost center owners and interact with all areas of finance to deliver accurate analysis and planning.

Compensation: CAD 71,000 - 103,000 base annually plus annual short-term incentive. The base salary offered may vary by skills and experience; eligibility for Maple Leaf’s annual incentive plan is included.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of finance experience.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting or finance.
  • CPA designation and/or strong knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Exposure to SAP environment would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support SG&A and centralized budgeting: build, consolidate, and analyze submissions.
  • Prepare journal entries, variance analyses, and monthly spend reports.
  • Forecasting, run-rate analysis, and risk/opportunity reviews with functional teams.
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on historical trends and forecasts.
  • Support audits and drive financial process improvements.
  • Contribute to special projects and strategic initiatives.

The Opportunity

As part of Maple Leaf Food’s Finance team, the SG&A SFA is responsible for forecasting, reporting and analysis of selling, general and admin (SG&A) costs and manufacturing centralized costs. This position works closely with SG&A and Centralized cost center owners, functional teams, and interacts with all areas of finance such as A/P, A/R, Payroll, General Accounting, and Operations & Supply Chain Finance. Success in this position will be achieved by consistently demonstrating strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, organizational skills, attention to detail and the Maple Leaf values. This position reports directly to the Finance Manager, SG&A.

Compensation: $71,000 - $103,000 CAD base pay annually plus annual short-term incentive

The above compensation reflects the target compensation for the position at the time of posting. The base salary offered may vary based on a variety of factors including skills, experience, education, training, job- related knowledge, and other organizational requirements. For part-time roles, salaries are adjusted according to scheduled hours. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible to participate in Maple Leaf’s annual short-term incentive plan.

Snapshot Of a Day-in-the-Life
  • SG&A and Centralized budgeting process: supporting cost centre budget build up, consolidation and analysis of submissions, supporting the calculation of SG&A and centralized allocation models, uploading into financial systems, and preparing presentation materials
  • Monthly close process for SG&A and Centralized: preparing Blackline journal entries, coordinating cross-company invoicing, timely & accurate closing, creating variance analysis reports, validation reports, preparing and distributing monthly spend & headcount reports, and account reconciliations
  • Support creation of periodic forecasts, update run-rate analysis and risk & opportunities, working with the functional teams to understand variances and corrective action plans where needed
  • Provide valuable insights, advice and recommendations based on historical trends and future modelling
  • Provide financial support on special projects and strategic initiatives
  • Conduct regular and additional ad hoc analysis and reporting as required
  • Support internal and external audits
  • Drive financial/business process improvements to achieve effective budget management and business performance
What You’ll Bring
  • 3-5 years of finance experience
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting or finance discipline
  • A professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA) and/or sound knowledge of accounting principles
  • Exposure to an SAP environment would be an asset
  • Proven ability to analyze issues, think strategically and develop resourceful solutions
  • Well organized, with strong prioritization skills allowing the management of multiple competing tasks
  • Strong and effective communication skills and the ability to interact well with all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to continuously improve processes and deliver on planned objectives
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (excel) skills and strong system skills preferably in SAP
