Thumbtack is seeking a Sr. Data Scientist on the Business Analytics team to drive insights across the marketplace, with emphasis on conversion and monetization.

You will steward key company metrics and dashboards, partner with leadership to shape strategy, and collaborate with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Operations, and Finance to turn analysis into strategic decisions. This is a high-visibility role that can change what the company does next.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in a highly analytical role, preferably in tech; marketplace experience a plus.
• Proficiency with SQL and Python or R to analyze large data sets.
• Strong statistics foundation, business judgment, and ability to navigate ambiguity.
• Experience partnering with executives to understand business needs and drive decisions.
• Excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience with using AI to automate workflows and enable self-serve analytics.
• Experience with revenue modeling and forecasting, in high-growth or public company environments.

About The Role

As a Sr. Data Scientist on Business Analytics, you’ll drive insights and action across the breadth of the marketplace, with a particular focus on conversion and monetization. You’ll be a steward of key company metrics and dashboards, and you’ll dive deep on the analytical questions most critical to Thumbtack’s success. You’ll partner with our leadership team to develop company strategy and goals, share performance updates with the Board, and work across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Operations, and Finance to turn analysis into decisions. This is a high-visibility role for someone who wants their work to change what the company does next.

What You’ll Do

• Define, monitor, and report on the key metrics that measure Thumbtack’s success
• Lead business performance analysis and reporting that surfaces emerging risks and opportunities for leadership
• Conduct deep-dive analyses that answer the questions most critical to Thumbtack’s future strategy
• Support and improve the company revenue forecasting model and the broader forecasting and planning process
• Build and maintain the dashboards and self-serve tools that teams across the company rely on
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Operations, Finance, and the leadership team to translate insight into action
• Strengthen our data culture through peer collaboration, review, training, and coaching

In order to be successful, you must bring

• 6+ years of experience in a highly analytical role, preferably in tech; experience in a marketplace or two-sided platform business is a plus
• Proficiency using SQL and Python or R to analyze large data sets
• Exemplary analytical problem solving: a solid statistics foundation, strong business judgment, comfort navigating ambiguity, and the ability to synthesize insight from analysis
• Experience partnering with executives to understand business needs and drive decisions
• Strong communication skills — an attentive listener and a compelling explainer across technical and non-technical audiences
• Experience with using AI to automate workflows and enable self-serve analytics
• Experience with revenue modeling and forecasting, ideally in a high-growth or public company environment

Expected salary ranges

• For candidates living in Ontario and British Columbia, the expected salary range for the role is currently $168,300.00 - $217,800.00.

Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
